“Brilliant Corporate Away Day and Night”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

We decided to hold our annual AGM here were superbly looked after in their conference room - for the day and for a dinner in the evening. We stayed over and rooms were impeccable, service, food impeccable. Being from the creative industry we tend to be very fussy about details and this did not disappoint.

This was the first time we'd stayed at a Hotel du Vin and it certainly lived up to our expectations. A night off from our 3 children is always going to be special but this one could not have been better. The hotel looks amazing from the outside and is well styled within. Our room, a suite, was incredible with a free-standing bath each! That was a first. The staff, especially the manager, were extremely friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for wandering around the Lanes and all the great shops and restaurants to be found there. The food (and wine) were definitely up to the very high standard this chain clearly sets itself. I always think the breakfast says a lot about a hotel and this is one of the best I have had. I look forward to going back enormously. Thank you.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with two baths!

I booked hdv for our wedding anniversary. We only live a few miles away but just wanted somewhere cosy to stay to spoil ourselves and this fit the bill perfectly!
We had a superior room which had an lovely bed, walk in shower which was to die for and also a roll top bath which I had to drag hubby out of!
The room was really quiet and had a nice outdoor area with a table and chairs which would be good in weather which is better than it is at the moment! Nespresso coffee maker and ipod docking station all nice touches.
We had dinner in the bistro which was also fantastic. As mentioned in previous review, wine a little pricey but to be honest the rest is such good value, for a special occasion you don't mind.
These days, eating out can be a real disappointment and it made us realise that you are better off spending a little more at somewhere like hdv and leaving satisfied than suffering a disappointment.
All the staff were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was also great. Eggs benedict...yum yum!
Would definately stay again. Perfect place to chill out on a wet blustery day.

Room Tip: If you get offered an upgrade then take it. You won't be disappointed!

Have stayed at the Hotel du Vin quite a few times now but never reviewed. The most recent stay was for New Year's eve so a special time. The booking included room, three course dinner and a live band and dancing to see us through midnight.

Other than the fact that we missed the mention of it being a black tie do we had a fabulous time. I had opted to upgrade the room beforehand and when we checked in found we'd been allocated a Junior Suite. It was on the second floor, which meant it was quieter, despite being immediately above the pub part of the hotel. The room was large, with sofa at the end of the bed, flat screen TV on the all facing. A 6ft bed with high thread count linen, as all the rooms tend to have. There was also a flash iPod dock, and a DVD player - a nice touch. The decor was modern, muted colours, though the curtains looked a bit tired and the windows in need of painting. The bathroom had a roll-top bath and a huge walk in shower. Only a single basin though, with not a huge amount of room for the usual array of lady's gear, but adequate. Some Junior Suites have the bath in the bedroom. One other major plus point is air-con/heating with individual controls so whether you're a hot house flower or a fresh air fiend you can set the temperature exactly as you want it. One minor gripe, as with other HDV hotels, is the lack of lights in the room. One day I'll arrive with my own supply of high wattage bulbs!

Dinner was fabulous. Although billed as three courses there was an 'amuse bouche' before starters and main courses which was delightful. This isn't usual though. Wine at HDV is never cheap but always good and we found a very acceptable sauvignon for £28 (probably the cheapest bottle bottle on the list).

Breakfast is also excellent at the hotel. There's a simple buffet with cereals, breads, juices and fruit with cooked dishes done to order from the menu. All included if breakfast is in your room rate.

The staff are also first rate, with a relaxed, friendly but attentive approach to service that makes staying at the hotel a pleasure. And some of them had worked through New Year's eve and on to breakfast without sleep!

Location-wise the hotel is a few hundred yards from the South Lanes, full of jewellers, boutiques and cafes, and just across the road from the sea. The latter point is a mixed blessing in December. It's lovely on a sunny day, but in a rain lashed storm, as we had, you have to gird your loins before going out. The wind was rushing up Ship Street so strongly that my golf umbrella just exploded as soon as I opened it!

There's no parking by the hotel or a valet parking service (just an unloading pull-in), but the hotel has a deal with a nearby NCP car park to get 25% off. 24 hour parking was £18 after the discount. The North Lanes have cheaper parking if you don't mind a 15 minute walk on sunnier days.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking street can get some noise from revellers during the night. Inside facing rooms sh...

We held our wedding party at Hotel du Vin on the 27th December 2013, it was a fantastic night with service that blew me any my family away. Whilst the great location and unique bespoke styling of the venue were already a given I was delighted by the superb service from all the staff, from the event coordinator who was very agreeable and who didn't said no to anything (every brides dream) to all the lovely waiters and waitresses on the night who were impeccably dressed and incredibly polite. I highly recommend this venue to anyone looking to get married in Brighton or for any type of private event such as a special birthday party. Thanks so much HdV!

Stayed just before Christmas and it was a welcome haven from the raging storm. We bought a bed/breakfast/evening meal package and got a room upgrade. Really comfortable bed and pillows, fabulous bathroom with walk in shower that I never wanted to get out of. The bar is really nice, with a good cocktail selection and breakfast (we just had the continental) was beautiful and ample. Dinner was very good but I have left it to the last as there was one slight niggle - when it came to settling the bill in the morning our meal allowance hadn't been deducted so I had to get that changed. We had eaten with a couple of friends and I also noticed that a 10% 'discretionary' service charge had been added to the restaurant bill. I could have asked for it to be removed but that would have felt a little churlish. Anyway, aside from this minor point its a fantastic place.

Wow, just had 3 days xmas eve til Boxing Day in the cristal suite. What a fantastic holiday. Room was really beautiful, 2 roll top baths at the end of an 8 ft bed. Very rockn roll . Special thanks to yukari for organising everything and for giving her time to chat to our daughter . The Xmas dinner was exceptionally good. Really delicious food and the best roast potatoes I have ever eaten! Can't wait to go back. Will have to be the cristal suite every time now, totally spoilt!

Room Tip: All the rooms are lovely but the suites are really worth the extra money for a special event.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hotel du Vin Brighton is situated in the Lanes conservation area, a pebbles' throw from the seafront. Its 49 bedrooms are housed in a collection of eccentric Gothic revival and mock Tudor buildings erected, appropriately by a wine merchant on the site of an old inn. Among many interesting features are a heavily carved staircase and bizarre gargoyles, while the original double-height hall now houses the wine bar and Laroche tasting room. The perfect venue for a picturesque wedding or party is the impressively large and airy Dome room. For the best tankered of local ale, Pub du Vin is one of Brighton city center's treasures with its classic pub dining. Out with the Brighton hotel is the wonder and inspiring town itself, with quaint streets dotted with fabulous shops, and of course the famous pier and promenade. ... more   less
