“Shame about the room size and the parking”
Reviewed 26 August 2014

The hotel generally is very good with attentive, helpful staff, excellent communal areas and great breakfasts. However beware of the room size and the parking facilities. We booked a double with balcony overlooking the marina and sea. There was only just room for the double bed, a small dressing table, a two drawer chest and a small chair. There was no wardrobe and nowhere near enough space to store clothes for two people staying for more than one night. We had a large quantity of suits, dresses, jackets, trousers and skirts along with loads of other clothes and shoes as we were in Brighton for a 3 day/3 night Mod weekend where multiple changes of stylish clothing is necessary. There was nowhere for all of our clothes to go and nowhere to keep the suitcases full of the clothes we could not unpack.

Parking was also a serious issue for us. Secure, private parking was essential. We brought a very valuable 1961 classic Lambretta motor scooter adorned with rare Mod accessories in the back of a van. We chose this hotel be cause it advertised plenty of on-site parking. It was not on-site. It was in a public, multi storey car park that the van could not go into. Consequently we had nowhere secure to leave our van and classic scooter......the main reason for picking the Seattle over all other Brighton hotels.

If we had been staying for 1 or 2 nights only, if we were not on a Mod holiday with loads of clothes, if we had traveled in a car rather than a van loaded with a valuable motor scooter, then the hotel would have been excellent. So for most guests, with the exception of the room size, this is a great place to stay. Don't, however, stay here if you have lots of luggage, are intending to stay for any length of time or have a large vehicle you need to park securely! .

Room Tip: Book a king sized room (doubles only just take a double bed!!) with balcony overlooking the marina.

I do love this hotel. I've stopped here on a number of occasions and love..... the location ...the free parking....the breakfast ........but I'm sorry try as I might it desperately needs some TLC. I stopped here for the August BH weekend and booked the large room with a Marina view..£200 plus per night which for Brighton puts the hotels in the top 10 price wise....the room 111 didnt disappoint with the view however when you began to look around the decor on all the walls are all marked, the carpets are stained and worn. Paint works to doors and skirting are all chipped and bath panel is damp and blown. The grout and silicone to the bath area is also dirty and require attention even the bed legs are dirty and worn....other items like the iron and ironing board are dirty, old and
inadequate. Please don't rely on location alone to attract your guests and invest in a much
needed maintenance regime before it's too late..

Room Tip: Marina view but at a price!!

Having stayed in Brighton numerous times, we thought we would opt for a hotel in a quieter location. We opted to stay in a king size room with views inland.

The positives to this hotel are: quiet and peaceful location, friendly staff, big bed, nice shower, good choice for breakfast, still walking distance to Brighton, free parking, room service, plenty of places to eat, room service, ASDA is close by for snacks/ alcohol!

The negatives: no air conditioning (although the weekend we stayed the weather it wasn't too hot), the mattress was a bit lumpy, only a small window, unlike other hotels in Brighton, this hotel does not offer a gym/ pool/ spa which is unfortunate which makes this hotel quite expensive for what it is and we couldnt detect wifi.

Having stayed in various hotels in Brighton, we would probably stay in the Thistle over this hotel but this would come in second.

We stayed for 3 nights celebrating a family wedding, from checkin to checkout this was an enjoyable and memorable stay. The staff carry this hotel, their friendliness and professionalism is up there with the best. The hotel itself is lovely, comfortable, clean and minimal with furnishings.

Food was very good and breakfast had something for everyone, we couldn't ask for much more. The views over the Marina can be seen from front rooms, bar and restaurant - with terraces to sit out and enjoy the lovely cocktails.

We will definitely return when next visiting Brighton

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking Marina - beautiful views.

We found the Seattle clean and comfortable. It's in the marina, which is more or less an 80s shopping mall with boats and chain restaurants and a big ASDA - not really very scenic, but it was clean and quiet. The free parking (very useful in Brighton) was easy to get to and not too far away. Our room had a sea view with a tiny balcony and a nice-sized comfy bed, decent sheets and towels. The room wasn't very big and there was only one chair and no wardrobe, so it did feel a little Travelodgey for the price, but there was prompt polite room service. The food wasn't very exciting, but it wasn't awful, and the restaurant a pleasant place to sit overlooking the sea. Some plus points: quiet, understated, chilled music in the public areas, very relaxing; nice original art on the walls which made it feel much less chainy; comfortable furniture; polite staff; a good shower. Minor annoyance: nice-smelling shower gel, but no hair conditioner. Potential major downer: we visited during the week and it was probably quieter than usual, so we had a good night, but I suspect that on Saturdays, with chain restaurants below the balconies and un-soundproofed windows, it might be pretty noisy.

We returned to Brighton for a break and chose the Seattle as it was well positioned and offered free parking ( very useful as very expensive to park in town) although in a nearby multi-storey seemed safe enough to us. It was a 30 minute walk along the front but a pleasant walk that we did several times over our three day break.the hotel was pretty average , clean and good size. However, is in need of a little refurbishment especially the bathrooms. Although I must say the towels supplied were probably the best I have ever used in a hotel- big and extremely fluffy!! The room was also very hot and we had to leave our window open all night ! This was annoying though as the seagulls are very noisy at 5.00am! I suppose it would be great in the Winter though!
The staff on reception were rather curt and unhelpful , not even knowing where the train went from to get into the town (it's been there since the 50's!) We only ate breakfast ,which was average although very pleasant eating outside on they'd verandah in the sunshine but I can't comment on the main restaurant food. The marina had plenty of restaurants to chose from, a few shops , cinema and casino. Plenty to do in Brighton including visiting the Pavilion and Laines area.
I would use the Seattle again because it is ideally situated .

This is becoming our 'go to place' when we want to get away to Brighton in a hurry.

We've been here twice this year and both times - one in winter and one in summer - have been different.but reassuringly familiar. If you know what I mean.

Rooms are decent sizes and while the bathroom is not luxurious, it's perfectly comfortable. Summer was quite hot and it could have done with more than a free standing fan. Need to sort out some air conditioning if it is to remain on the Brighton 'must stay here' list.

Front house staff are always friendly and accommodating and are just the right side of hip and easy on the eye. Chambermaids and men are prompt and efficient. But the restaurant staff are arguably the real stars. Breakfast time is a real treat and is run with military precision. Food's pretty good too.

The marina area could do with a few more shops and eateries rather than the standard Sainsbury's and McDonalds if they are going to keep visitors away from the far superior Laines area and the established beach front.

Room Tip: Marina side rooms are good for the view but can get a little loud at night and in the morning.
