I was also at the re-union meal. Seems that we were ripped off a bit? The meals were meant to be £5 each and we all paid £11 a head. As there were no drinks (we brought our own) I have no idea how this happened. Other than that, it was a great space to sit and catch-up with old friends and we could be as noisy as we wanted without annoying any other customers as our group took up the entire downstairs space.

It was a Saturday night on a bank holiday weekend. We were a fairly large crowd of fifteen or thereabouts. We were on a reunion - we had all gone to school in Saudi Arabia. We'd not booked a restaurant as we'd wanted to be a bit flexible. However, I was starting to get a bit worried after the first few places we'd walked to were booked/ busy! Then, we spotted Marhaba. 'Marhaba' means 'hello' in Arabic. It seemed like fate that there was an area downstairs with plenty of room. We could bring our own booze and eat Middle Eastern food while we caught up/ reminisced about our time in Saudi. Perfect!

The staff accommodated us well. They were friendly and helpful.

We started ordering and got so far as the veggie orders, then asked if we could wait for a few others to catch us up. A couple of us went to buy beer and wine from a nearby shop. We were quite happy, catching up with one another. They returned and our missing friends found us. We ordered a selection of food - some chicken, some lamb and some vegetarian. All was good. The veggie dishes we'd started to order at the beginning came much earlier than everyone else's, but that was okay - we just treated them as shared starters and then ordered some extra veggie dishes to make up for it! We were all quite happy to see one another and didn't notice if the service was quick or slow. It was the perfect place for us and our group.

We asked about the sheesha pipes afterwards, but it seemed a bit expensive, so we moved on.

We went on Saturday night, and the restaurant wasn't especially busy. Yet we had to wait 15 minutes before being given glasses for our wine (it's BYO), and another 10 before our order was taken (the manager having run off halfway through taking our order originally). Most of the starters on the menu were unavailable, though he hadn't thought to mention that earlier.

He brought us a small plate of flatbread, which tasted of stale meat fat and was pretty vile. Meanwhile, the table next to us had found meat in their vegetarian starters.

When, an hour after arriving, we still hadn't been served our starters, we took our wine and left.

Useless.
