“Coffee and cake with friends”
Reviewed 8 November 2013

A lovely coffee shop that's roomy inside even though it's so popular that it's often busy. Great coffee, tasty cakes, friendly staff - watch the Kemptown world go by (or come in!) and people-watch (and doggy-watch!) from the Redroaster. If you're looking for somewhere to meet people or somewhere to take the weight off for a little while - look no further.

“Good coffee”
Reviewed 8 October 2013

Have had coffee and eaten here on a number of occasions. Is always very busy and it can be difficult to get a table. On this occasion four of us went for coffee and a snack. The coffee and food were great.

“Superb coffee, delicious hot chocolate, great atmosphere.”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

I used to work near the Redroaster and miss visiting as often as I used to. It's become, over the years, a real Brighton institution. The coffee is fantastic, the hot chocolate delicious and the staff friendly (especially considering how busy they get). Great atmosphere and mixture of people. Sit outside and watch the eclectic population of St James Street pass by. Watch out for their poetry and spoken word evenings if that's your bag.

“Nothing special.”
Reviewed 26 July 2013

We stopped in here on our way back from the beach. Just wanted a cuppa and something fresh. My husband had a latte and I had a fresh orange juice.

I was not really impressed by the service. Not one smile from the lady serving me at the counter. I thought my fresh orange juice was nice and pulpy until I realised that the pips had been crushed as well and were still in my juice.... urgh! That did not impress me at all.

Husband wasn't impressed by his coffee either. Such a pity since the cafe had a really nice atmosphere and plenty of seats for the patrons.
