Good ambience at lunchtime, excellent beer (long man bitter)- shame about the food. You are getting local fresh fish - great - so please get a chef who knows what to do with it. My piece was completely smothered with herbs and spices, making the fish itself redundant and the dish barely edible.

We came to The Crown and Anchor Inn very hungry and tired from walking round the nearby Preston Park and were ready to eat anything. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the pub has some nice sofas with boardgames to keep you entertained. However I must say we were really disappointed with the burger we ordered and we didn't even finish it. The bun was slightly stale, the relish was not nice, the onions were tasteless and the meat was overcooked. Can't speak for the rest of the food here and it was probably a bad day in the kitchen but I'd go for something else on the menu just to be safe. It's not a buy!

Had the special 2 courses for £10. Lovely moules and great value. Extremely busy but the waitress was still attentive. Good atmosphere.

How nice to have a plowmans without tired coleslaw. Instead we got freshly cut apple, celery, etc. Surprisingly cosy garden at the back despite being just off the busy London Road. Decor a little but 'Farrow and Balled'... Attentive good service.
