“Good place but overpriced”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

Stayed here for one night, the rooms were spacious and clean however you could hear every creak and noise from other bedrooms, I also felt this hotel was overpriced for what you get amenities wise. I guess it's just the location they can get away with high prices. Staff were friendly and we had a great night but probably wouldn't stay here again

Stayed as part of a group of 16 people (yes the same group as the previous review) after cycling from London to Brighton.
Service was friendly and welcoming. Not the impression given by previous reviews.
The reception, corridors, lift were very worn, but clean enough.
The Room that I stayed in had three single beds in one room, and one attached room with one bed and one kitchenette in. It was clean, and had been refurbished recently, as had the large bathroom.
If four of you share a room and the cost, then it's a cheap place to stay for a night.

Stayed last weekend after the London to Brighton off road bike ride and we'd had lots of discussion after reading the negative reviews. Just wanted to put the record straight - the hotel was clean, the bedroom and bedding clean, the bed comfortable, the bathroom clean and a great shower; all looked recently updated and modernised. For somewhere to crash with a group of friends it was perfect - right by the seafront, a bar attached and an easy walk to restaurants and nightlife.

For the price we paid it was exactly what we wanted and have no complaints at all; the staff were helpful and polite too.

I stayed here as part of a group of 15 blokes who did the London to Brighton off road bike ride. The location was perfect just half a mile or so from the finish and right on the seafront.

We were four to a room but this was fine, beds clean and comfortable. Shower was great, hot and powerful. Bar was pleasant enough and staff were friendly.

Really don't know what the negative reviewers expect for about £45 per person.

If you are taking the wife away for a romantic weekend then stay at the Grand, if you're in a group going on a night out in Brighton this place is spot on.

Nice cafe just a couple of doors down for full English breakfast in the morning too!

this hotel is in a good location as it is a 5 min walk to shops and pubs. Rooms was a little small for 4 people but a good layout.the lift stinks of stale piss one electric socket blew our fuse and sparked so told reception and then had to help him fix it there was only 2 sockets between 4 people which wasn't good.

This is a classic bait and switch...the price and the pics do not show what this hotel is...a student hostel! Don't waste your money, or a good nights sleep on this awful place. The rooms smell, the beds uncomfortable, and the staff are rude and unkind.

After booking and then reading the reviews myself & my friend were worried what we had let ourself in for!

We arrived to a reception that looked a bit dowdy and was full or European students hanging around on the stairs and gave each other a side eye. We arrived at midday to drop our bags off as check in wasn't until after 2pm, however, our room was already made up and we were checked in early at no extra cost.

Still a bit worried, we went up to our room 307 and opened the door, to a big sigh of relief!

The room was much bigger than most rooms I have stayed in, the bed was made up and comfy, the bathroom recently decorated and clean and there was plenty of wardrobe space.

We didn't have any complaints about noise from other guests. We were there for a night out ourselves to may have missed the loud return of the visiting students!

Overall, you get what you pay for, but a hotel that allows a one night stay in Brighton is rare especially for the first weekend of the summer holidays.

Would stay here again with friends for a night out but as a couple, i'd prefer to spend a bit more to get some luxury.

Do not be put off by the bad reviews! I am a difficult one to please and I don't have any complaints.
