From start to finish everything about our visit was impeccable. for a small quaint little cafe the service was way over 5 star standard. we booked a table for 6 for the three course afternoon tea deal and our table was beautifully set and ready for us. i would 100% recommend booking as it was full on a thursday afternoon! really good value for price, we were given so much that we couldn't even finish half of it! but they happily packed up all our remainders in boxes for us to take home without asking. the cakes were so beautifully all handmade and delicious - tea at the ritz doesn't have this much detail and time put into it. HIGHLY recommend! will definitely be back.

This has to be the best place I have ever had afternoon tea at, and I have managed to get through many!!
As others have said this is a small place, so as many others had done book ahead (this is compulsory for the afternoon tea, but advisable if just going for lunch etc), but is appointed well inside and certainly doesn't feel crammed in which is great.
The service is friendly and efficient with regular checks that everything is ok, a hard act to get right without becoming and nuisance which they manage extremely well here! The lady who owns the shop is also extremely friendly and accommodating.
But most importantly, the food, as others have said it is wonderful. The sandwiches were all extremely fresh and filled well. The main event is always the cakes/scones and this certainly did not disappoint, they were beautifully handcrafted and tasted amazing! I was extremely disappointed with myself that I couldn't manage to eat them all, but was kindly offered a box to take the rest home which were enjoyed later!
Other food being served, sandwiches, jacket potatoes and of course cake all looked extremely appetising. Don't hesitate to book/visit! Will definitely be returning soon!

My husband and I were treated to Tea at Cakes the difference, we were so impressed with the service and food. Plenty of tea or coffee and sandwiches and beautiful little cakes. More than we could eat so we were given cake boxes to bring the remainder home. It is a quaint tea shop and will definatley be going back.

I have no idea why this restaurant is rated so highly. It is fine. I can't see that you would want to go out of your way to visit it. We went for brunch at 11. The tables inside were reserved for lunch so we had to sit outside, although it was cold and we had a baby. Also, that the lunch guests were not expected until 1pm. The food was okay (sandwich, baked potato) certainly nothing special. The cake was nice. Service was nothing special. there are so many lovely places to eat in Brighton. Some even have great sea views. Think on.
