“Nice B&B”
Reviewed 21 July 2008

Good Points: Spent one night in the suite on the ground floor of the Griffin sharing between four of us. Was ideal as very private and with separate shared bathroom between he two rooms which comprised the suite. Room was nice and clean and fresh bedding and towels, with a little chocolate for each of us upon towels when we arrived. Shower was big although could do with a new shower head.

Upon arrival were shown by owners a Brighton map giving us details as to where to find the bars/restaurants which was handy as we had never been to Brighton before. Location of B&B great for getting to the main town and seafront within minutes.

Also liked the selection of dvds available to all in the hall as each of our rooms had dvd players which is good if nothing on t.v.

Tea and coffee facilities in a nice area on the terrace at top of building. Although we didnt use it is obviously a nice space to sit and relax.

Breakfast was delicious, I had the scrambled eggs with bacon and toast which was gorgeous. Another of our party had the full english which was also delicious.

Bad Points: Although cant be helped, we couldn't park near the B&B and had to park in a multi-storey car park a few minutes away which cost £10 for 24 hours so something to be aware of.

The seagulls kept me up for the majority of the night which is of course not the owners' fault but a bit off putting to the idea of staying there again and not somewhere more inland.

Also must be aware that breakfats starts at 8am weekdays and so heard movement within hotel and preparation for breakfast at 7.15 which was inconvenient after a bad night sleep. Also not enough sugar in sugar bowl as we run out quickly as we use quite a lot between us per cup.

I have stayed in a few B&Bs and Hotels, and this one takes some beating! Me and my girlfriend stayed at The Griffin this week for 2 nights (Room 7 - Butterfly Room) and we were amazed at how welcoming the owners were (and the cats!) The room was spotless and the shower great, the bed was VERY comfy and the room was spacious. The best thing about The Griffin was the breakfast! WOW! I would personally travel another 6 hours to go there again for the breakfast, it was GORGEOUS!! The owners couldn't do enough for you, and they recommended a few great places to eat/drink!

Thanks Chris, Kieron and the cats for a lovely stay!!!

Everything about the Griffin Guest house is about attention to detail. The welcoming you get from Chris and Keiron (sorry if that is spelt wrong) is a warm and friendly one. The have a good knowledge of the area and so can recomend the best places for you to go whether it be for sight seeing, eating or just for a good old drink. We stayed for our 1st wedding anniversary and were give a nice bottle of fizz to help us celebrate which we enjoyed whilst relaxing in the jacuzzi bath in our room which was the lovely room 8. I can not comment on the other rooms as i only saw the one but the room we had was beautiful, wooden floors, lcd tv with dvd and a fabulous sleigh bed which was sooooooooo comfortable. As i said the Jacuzzi bath is a great feauture and what i liked best about it was that it was actually in the bedroom itself on a plinth and was pleanty big enough for 2. During our stay we ate at the little itallian next door to the hotel which is really nice and good value for money with a cozy atmosphere. For out anniversary we ate at 'The saint' resturant which is about 30 seconds walk away. I'd say it is contempary english food with a med twist. Very nice for a special occasion and not to expensive. We visited the PV pub frequently throughout our stay ( get directions off the lads) it is a small friendly pub ( mainly for the ladies ) its good fun and they serve ( in the words of my partner ) the best bagels ever, at lunch times. Being a female couple we can only really comment on the kemp town of brighton which is houses the majority of the gay scene but it is lots of fun. Back to the hotel, the lads have made a massive effort in order to make breakfasts for their guests and now that the front room is finsihed the breakfasts are great. The nicest scrambeled eggs EVER! Anyway thanks to Chirs and Keiron for a great stay and we will be visiting again. Oh yes one last thing in reply to the previous guest who complained about the seagulls, IF YOU DONT WANT SEAGULLS DONT GO TO THE SEA! There really isnt much anyone can do about the noise the seagulls make and its really unfair to critisize any of the hotel owners.

The atmosphere and service are excellent, the rooms were clean and the beds were VERY comfortable. The owners are friendly and helpful. I particularly like the conservatory, it was a great place to chill out and the owners had thought of everything from tea & coffee to paracetamol & after sun, thanks guys. I would highly recommend anyone stay here, it is probably the best place I have stayed and it felt like leaving family when it was time to go home.

I stayed at the Griffin Guest House with two friends in May 2008. We had originally chosen it because we were looking for a room that could sleep 3 people, but one of my friends snores terribly, so needed some space from her. The West Wing offered two double bedrooms with a bathroom, all in it's own area of the house, which was perfect.
We were met at the door when we arrived and then Chris helped me find a parking space while the others took the bags in.
First impressions are great - lovely decor and very very welcoming hosts. The rooms were lovely, with towels, toiletries and even a Ripple bar left at the bottom of the beds!
For us the best part was the conservatory with a terrace. This gave us a space to sit and relax at any time of the day or night. The breakfast was to die for and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts.
We are already talking about going back and are recommending it to all of our friends. I have stayed in lots of different hotels/b & b's around the world, but would be hard pressed to find somewhere so perfect or relaxing. Go - you'll love it!

Location is wonderful, service efficient, owners very friendly and helpful, breakfast delicious. Good night's sleep until the sun rises (and then the seagulls and pigeons start making a terrible racket). We had a rear-facing suite of two (very small) bedrooms and so there might be less noise from a front-facing room. Bathroom in dire need of refurbishment and some elbow grease

I stayed in The Griffin over bank holiday weekend in May with my boyfriend. On arrival we had help finding a parking space which was much appreciated! Lovely room with a great set up, really clean and nicely decorated. The breakfasts are amazing here and the atmosphere is really friendly and laid back. I'd recommend this place if you want to be in the centre of a lively town and be close to the sea front also.
