The hotel attracts a mixture of the weekenders, stag/hen party people and business clients for the most part. I have a corporate account and use it for business clients coming into Brighton, but have also stayed there myself and had friends and family stay there.
The convenience of the location being right next to the train station makes it ideal. For those complaining about the expense of parking etc., this is Brighton. Parking is a nightmare even for permament residents who have to pay annually to park on the street if in one of the controlled zones, which covers a large section of Brighton and Hove. Yes it's expensive - so why not get the train in, which this hotel is right next to, and don't worry about it.
The hotel itself has always been clean and comfortable for my guests. I've never had any specific complaints about that. It's modern and well furnished. It's at a standard higher than many of the older hotels in Brighton that are more expensive but suffer from faded glory syndrome. There are better appointed places in Brighton for sure but they will generally cost you more.
The service has been sometimes hit and miss in the past but after using them for over 5 years I've given feedback which has been taken seriously and seen things get better and more attentive. High turnover at the front desk, leading to lack of adequate training, and poor communication have in the past been issues - but they were addressed. As a business client I'd say the service they afford is very good - and I deal with a lot of hotels in the UK and abroad.
Value wise it's fairly competitive for Brighton. You will find cheaper and also vastly more expensive. It's not always the case that the quality of the stay is reflected in the price in Brighton. At peak times the hotel will raise it's tariff but nearly all hotels in the city will do this to some extent.
Stag/hen parties, and the noise they make, can be an issue for clients wanting peace and quiet. Especially at weekends. However if you specifically request to be on one of the quieter floors if they can accomodate this I'm sure they usually will try. As far as I'm aware they actively try to organise bookings so stag/hen parties are on one lot of floors and others are on the 'quieter' floors. At least they did at one time. But if it's busy; not much they can do. Bear in mind, again, that this is Brighton - it's a party town and London's weekend playground. It gets noisy wherever you are, on a weekend you're probably never more than 100m from a stag/hen party in the city centre. Eastbourne is just down the road though, and quieter...
