“Looking for something different?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 October 2010

Nepalese restaurants seem to be opening up everywhere but they are still unusual enough to be a special place to eat, a step aside from the usual curry, balti and tandoori houses. The Gurkha Chef is certainly special; the food is well prepared, delicious and served by the friendliest people on the planet; tell Raj a joke just to listen to him laugh - he has the most infectious giggle! The dishes range from mildly spiced to hot, and if you like ginger this is the place to come. They also have real nepalese beer.
The restaurant is not large, so book to ensure a table as it is very popular - and with a wide range of fans: young, old, formal, informal etc. The atmosphere is variable, sometimes noisy. There's always a film of Nepal playing on one wall, the opposite wall is an enormous window looking straight out onto the beach and the English Channel. Joanna Lumley is ever present, grinning down from a photo on the wall taken when supporting the Gurkhas.
Thoroughly recommended!

“Friendly restaurant with interesting food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 September 2010

We ate at this restaurant on the recommendation of our B&B landlady and were not disappointed. Friendly service and very interesting food - we had not eaten at a Nepalese restaurant before and enjoyed the flavours of the food which was more gentle and aromatic than Indian cuisine.

“Delightful experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 August 2010

My partner and I visited this restaurant over the August bank holiday weekend.
We must totally agree to the previous excellent reviews - food is fantastic (the first authentic Nepalese cuisine I had in the UK), service is friendly, efficient and professional, atomosphere was very relaxing. We will certainly go back there for future weekend get-aways just to dine at this restaurant!

“This was my second visit to the Gurkha...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 August 2010

This was my second visit to the Gurkha Chef. The Thursday night banquet offers excellent value for money. The service is generally exceptional although on this visit a couple of items arrived late and not with the rest of the food. The restaurant gets very hot at the end of the evening when busy, they have air conditioning / fan but didn't turn it on !! A couple of minor issues on this occassion but still one of the best restaurants overall in the area. Would recommend to anyone, you will not be disappointed I will return in the near future.
