I was worried after reading some of the reviews but when we got there it was fine. Very nice park setting, clean caravan, good outdoor play area for the children and a great family pool. The pool isn't the big normal tye but its nicely designed and lovely and warm. They also have two small pools with a slide for younger childern which was really very warm! A nice jacuzzi and sauna. Friendly and helpful staff. We went for one week with our 8 and 3 year old and had a lovely relaxing time. I'd deffinately go again. A good family park.

Room Tip: We had a Gold plus caravan

I read the reviews after I had booked and paid. Consequently I emailed the site for reassurance but never received a reply.

Fortunately when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The caravan was spotless, although very cold. We reported a few maintenance issues including a faulty smoke detector and this took two days to replace.

The main reason for booking this site was the indoor swimming pool which we visited the first morning. Unfortunately our visit was spoilt by an over exuberant life guard who constantly watched my teenage son whilst he was playing with a younger child in our group. After he initially told my son to not give our friends child a piggy back in the water he would not take his eyes off him. We could not relax after that and left, and did not use the facilities again during our stay.

All the other staff we came across were lovely and really friendly. It was spoilt by the large life guard who seemed to be trying to prove something to his collegues, one of which was giving him training on how to use a life saving rope device. The fact that he needed training on how to wind the rope up didn't give me much confidence.

Overall this is beautifully located site and perfect for discovering the surrounding areas.

Just returned from a Monday to Friday break at Coghurst Hall - never again. We paid extra for Gold Plus 2 bed 6 berth caravan even though there was only two of us. Very disappointing. It was an old caravan and the carpet in the seating area was very stained. Had to rehang the bedroom curtains so they would close properly. Gas fire didn't work but it didn't appear to have been tested anyway. It was quite cold in the evenings and mornings so we had to light the oven and leave the door open to get some heat. TV tiny and had to have it on full volume but still not loud. All the springs in the double bed had gone and it was extremely uncomfortable. Pillows were flat - I used three and hubby four. The water was only just aired and never ran hot. This is not a park to pick if you have mobility problems. Car park was quite a way from our caravan and we had to carry everything over muddy grass - there are no paths. No dustbins within walking distance which probably accounted for all the rubbish under the caravan. On the morning of departure we needed to leave about 8.00 a.m so we went to the clubhouse to post the keys through the box there (as it said in the Park Holidays literature left in the caravan). No box. No letterbox either in the clubhouse door, sales office door or head office door. A cleaner and workman both on site refused to take the keys from us. We eventually left them with someone we presume was a director who pulled up in the head office car park in his BMW convertible but this delayed us by a good half hour. Finally the park itself is not in Hastings. It is quite a long way out, down a long dark country lane and the signs to the park on the road out of Hastings are not that good.

There are many reviews which express how we feel about place. However our caravan was very nice and clean although the windows fitted very poorly and it was quite cold. The lack of shop didn't bother us so much to start with, that is until we made the mistake of buying breakfasts. It really was the most disgusting thing ever (cold overcooked eggs, cold tomatoes straight out of tin, watery baked beans and the worst, cheapest sausage imaginable) and we could not go back the second day and they refused to refund us. At that point we could have done with a shop! Some of the staff were lovely, some were not and when we complained about food got very grumpy. Furthermore the whole area - including the restaurant - stunk of sewage. Hardly nice when you are eating. Customer service is severely lacking at this place. I ordered extra linen pack and it didn't arrive. Man at reception disinterested and couldn't care about anything. Lovely lady gave us directions to shop. Couldn't go back again. Shame really, it could have been a nice place. Didn't use pool cos we couldn't face staying any longer. We stayed in "Gold Plus" too but really more like Bronze Plus.

Have just came back from a weekend at Coghurst Hall and this is the 1st place I have been to that I will never go back to again - Where do I begin?? - Had a "Gold" style caravan which was so badly insulated and was freezing inside virtually all the time - It was actually warmer outside at 5am than it was inside the van - the hot water didn't work properly, the grill didn't shut properly and so was a safety risk - the heaters in the rooms didn't work very well - but most of all the caravan floors were very very creaky - an ant walking across the floor would have creaked the floor - it was soooo noisy!! - The clubhouse was of a good size but was always very understaffed - Ordered food on the friday night which took an age to get and was very cold. The price of the drinks kept varying - 1 order was £14.20 and the very next one (exactly the same order) was charged at £18.20!!! - The clubhouse is badly layedout for any disabled visitors as you have to go out the back door and go al around the building to get in to the raised floor of the building. The kids play area is just a slide - end of. There are areas in the park which can be compared to a commercial dump with bits of decking and rusty vans thrown in an area. The main reason for my stay was to fish with 4 friends and again a massive problem here - Due to an owner consistently feeding the fish in a "non fishing" zone then there were no fish to be caught - It was overheard that it'd been over 3 weeks before someone had caught something. Overall the 5 in my party stayed pretty much as much time away from the caravan park as we all agreed that this was the worst place ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Book elsewhere!!

After reading eveyone's reviews I thought I'd share mine from last year. I booked privately through a website (directholidayhomes.co.uk)and couldn't have been happier. I booked a 7 night stay in this caravan last year. Best thing I ever did. The kids loved the garden and the adults loved the quiet setting. It had a private garden very large decking and it overlooked a lake by the woods. The interior was spotless and very modern. The garden was fenced in, very well lit and safe for the kids to run around in. The garden was about 70 ft square.
The park was clean but dark at night so carry a torch, food in clubhouse was ok. Where we were you couldn't hear the clubhouse at night but we were still only a 2 min walk to it. Word of warning, if you are situated near the clubhouse or on the main lake you will hear noise up to 1am from the clubhouse due to the patio doors being open at the back of the clubhouse in the hotter months.

Room Tip: Book privately through directholidayhomes.co.uk. I did.

Read reviews on this site before going so was expecting worst, but it was great (under new management), especially for 75 quid for 4 nights. Staff all very friendly and helpful, had a blocked sink and TV probs when we arrived - both fixed within two hours. Swimming pool was warm (much warmer than center parcs), nice jacuzzi, sauna and childrens slide and pool (all extremely clean). Saw Loopy rabbit every night, and even though clubhouse quite empty staff made sure our kids got their fix of 'disco bingo' each night, even putting on a special game when we were late back! Had Gold caravan, clean and fairly spacious. Shame of site is that they have overdeveloped it, if they squeeze many more caravans in there will be no green areas left! For the price of course we were nowhere near the lake, but we used as a base and there were loads of reasonably priced days out in local area (Hastings under 4 miles). Do not go expecting to stock up in 'shop', was more like a cubby hole under the stairs stocking very little.
