“Booked the Best but was disappointed!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 March 2014

We have stayed at this caravan site before and found it to be very pleasant, so this time we returned but booked a Platinum caravan as it was the best caravan you can book.
On arrival we found the site had been revamped with a very smart reception area, new shop and newly decorated bar/restaurant.
We found our caravan easily although sited on a muddy hill side. It would have been nice if Park Holidays had emailed me to suggested bringing Wellington boots.
On first inspection of the caravan we found one toilet to be covered in human excrement which was very off putting also the light fitting in the lounge had bulbs missing.
The toilet was cleaned when reported and an apology given but we had not been able to use it during our first night. The light bulb issue never got sorted and throughout our stay we were told they were different bulb fittings to other caravans on the site although they looked the same as we use at home in our lighting and come easily from many shops.
The site itself is very attractive with a large lake that you can wonder around.
We paid for breakfasts which is excellent value for people without dietary needs however one of our party members is a vegetarian. Although I notified prior to arrival and on arrival staff were unable to supply vegetarian sausages and the person had to make do with beans and egg on toast throughout our five day stay.
We were also surprised that electronic cigarettes were allowed to be used in the bar area where children are present and we were having an evening meal.
The entertainment staff who were present were rude as throughout our stay the past us and ignored us, I was under the impression that they were there to look after all guest not just ones they already knew.
The swimming pool was closed throughout our stay so was unable to use this again.
I think next time I decide to come to the area I would review other options of stay before booking here again.

Room Tip: Worth extra for Platinum as caravan are brand new.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review following on from your recent stay at Coghurst Hall Holiday Park, and, of course, we use both negative and positive reviews to improve our service and standards.

We do try to call all our guests before they arrive during bad weather suggesting they bring Wellington Boots or other protective rain wear, but we don't always manage to get hold of everyone prior to arrival. Sadly unforeseen events like the weather are often beyond our control.

We do hope that you will not be put off returning to the park in the future.

Myself and my husband booked a last minute three night stay with our 4 year old and I am glad we paid no attention to the negative reviews. We had a lovely stay, yes agree with others that the clubhouse is small and wouldn't stay here peak season but our caravan was spotless on arrival and had everything we needed, we were in the garden area and yes it could get a bit muddy but it didn't cause any difficulties, the staff were all friendly and food and drinks were reasonably priced. There is a good menu selection for adults and children and we had no complaints at all, we found that getting to the club house at around 5pm meant that we could get a table near the entertainment area which is easier with little ones. The pool was lovely and warm and the slide made for good entertainment with our little one, together with the kids club in the evening with loopy our 4 year old had a fantastic time and didn't want to come home. We will definately come here again.

Room Tip: We booked a silver plus caravan which for two adults and one child is ideal.

Took a short break 14th - 18th March 2014. Booked at very short notice the week before and after booking read the trip advisor reviews, had we read these prior to booking we would not have booked. Our opinion is that many are very unfair to the park, yes the entertainment centre and pool are to small, yes at the moment there is not enough parking if site is full and yes the park was very muddy but no wonder considering the atrocious weather experienced this year. The mud, so we understand, atributed to the parking problems as new caravans had arrived but it has been to dangerous to remove old ones. As to our break we could find nothing to complain about, the staff were polite and friendly, the food was hot and of a good quality, the caravan, a silver, was clean dry and well apointed, we always managed to find a seat in the bar albeit not always easy and the park is in a beautifull location. All in all we had a very pleasant stay and would return. Not sure what people expect this is a caravan park in England no better or worse than others we have stayed at over the years not a 5 star hotel in the South of France

Reading some of the reviews it feels as if I've been on a different holiday!
Our caravan was lovely,it was alot better than expected, clean, had everything you needed ans alot if cupboard space, there was a curtain missing but as soon as it was reported within 5 mins someone was round to sort the problem.
Yes it was a bit muddy but what do you expect really it's a caravan park in the Woodlands! Could do with some paths towards to caravans but not a massive problem.
Reception area was very nice and modern, one staff member did seem rude and stuck up but the other lady I went too was lovely. Shop was great everything we needed was there. Bar area was nice and clean too, only thing I would say is its small so wouldn't want to go peek season.
Was very impressed with the swimming pool, had a nice separate slide pool for children and a sauna.
Not much entertainment throughout the day but might be because it's not peek season, would like to state that Brooke said she was a new entertainer and never done this before so she is learning, and the kids loved her! I thought she did well she just needs some support.
Around the park there was alot of unused caravans which I guess they will be getting rid of soon.
On the last night we was told to evacuate the bar area due to a fire in the boiler room of the swimming pool, we was out quickly, safely. Hoping not to much damage was done.
Overall we had a nice stay, and my little girl loved loopy, would happily get away again for a weekend

Thanks you for your very positive review, your points on the entertainment are exactly right.

Also the caravans stationed on the side of the roads are to be cleared going forward.

We had a lot of new hire units go on to the park and are disposing of the old ones.

We hope to see you here again very soon.

Very poor site muddy and dark at night, no paths, rubbish everywhere. The Pool to cold for child no sauna, as was broken even though they had only just opened. Entertainment was a joke, and I don't mean it in a good way, Brooke was awful and in the wrong job. The main reason we came to Parks is because our 2 year son loves Loppy, well he only made a 5 minute appearance on the first night, Music system not working and they had no idea what to do about it. Bar prices over priced by far. Bar staff friendly, It was all as if they were not expecting us or anyone that weekend. The owners resent us being there as it is their park and complain about how late the entertainment went on (I agree ).

Terrible experience I would not wish this on anyone

Room Tip: Find a cheap hotel somewhere else

We'd paid for a caravan upgrade but to be honest - the caravan was still more basic than anything we have ever stayed in elsewhere. The facilities are poor - the swimming pool changing area a joke and certainly would not be able to cope in high season and the sauna wasn't working at all. The stock in the onsite shop was virtually non existent the general site parking poor. The lighting and general upkeep of the site was lacking and the overall impression was of a place surprised to have visitors. I would not recommend this site to anyone.

Room Tip: Go somewhere else!

I am really disappointed to hear that you did not enjoy your recent stay at Coghurst Hall Holiday Park.

I am very surprised that the shop stock was low as we have two deliveries a week so will investigate.

Thank you again for your feedback which helps us improve our service and facilities.

Came here for a long weekend away. Caravan was nice. Cold at night but to be expected. Have no complaints about the caravan. Maybe sky tv would be a nice touch.

Club house was hit and miss. Drinks were ok and reasonably priced. Food to be honest, was awful. Was generic basic range stuff. And the prices made this a bit of a joke.

Indoor pool was nicely laid out. And got to teach my 5 year old to swim in a safe and quiet environment. But...... The boiler had broken and the water was freezing. Was like this all weekend. Made it hard to bare.

Overall enjoyed my stay. But think some form of good will gesture over the pool would have been nice.

Oh and make sure if you smoke get them before you go. £9 for a box of fags is a disgrace!!
