we stayed in this lovely hotel in February of this year. Of all the hotels we stayed in while in England this one far beyond what we expected! From the gorgeous view over the channel and the easy and beautiful walk to Old Hastings and the fabulous staff. This is the place that we will stay when we return in a couple of years, I'm not even going to look around. This was home away from home!!

Room Tip: the rooms facing the channel are my first choice because of the view day and night! Also parking is...

Convenient location, room was lovely size and very clean as was the rest of the hotel. Good breakfast selection but was disappointed with meal on first night so ate out on second night. Overall an enjoyable break.

Great night away with my partner, had fantastic room, view was lovely and the food was reasonable and also very nice.. The staff were fantastic, we asked a lot of questions about the area which is within walking distance to Hastings and had a great time.

Room Tip: Balcony rooms are obviously the best, but I'm sure all the rooms are lovely, we just had a norma...

I visited Royal Victoria hotel for Afternoon tea recently. I reserved a table over the phone few days in advance without any problem. On the arrival we were directed to the Bar lounge on 1st floor . The stair case was pretty impressive, however decoration and carpets were tired and outdated. The interiors far from stylish and in need of urgent updating. A table cloth was stained and dirty. Food was OK-ish. Staff was friendly and helpful, but clearly not familiar with the latest offers, promotions and prices advertised on the website. I was almost overcharged approx. £9.00. It's unlikely that I will visit again.

an old friend invited us to Sunday lunch at the royal Victoria. we were met by an effervescent head waiter called juan, led to our table over looking the sea front and a wonderful view out to sea. the food is of good quality and plenty to choose from. better than the average carvery. they also stock a good range of house wines, we had a lovely time catching up on old times and were very sorry to leave, next time we are down we will be staying here. no more holiday inns for us

this hotel is one of the finest Victorian hotels I have been to for a long time, the public rooms are very bright and clean. It is the first time I have every seen a grade 2 listed staircase, let alone the whole building

Our checking in process was very swift however our quick arrival was delayed somewhat by the failure of the key card. After several attempts the staff had to re-programme the door which eventually worked. We were impressed by the size of the room with a nice high ceiling, and also the dressing area on the way to the bathroom. The weather was very hot, 30C which meant that the room was uncomfortably warm at night. There was tea and coffee making facilities in the room and plenty of storage space. The flat screen TV was disappointingly small for the size of the room. The mattress was very soft and perched on top of two unconnected units below which were drifting apart. We had booked breakfast and dinner and the food was pretty good, although on the first night we were the only people in the dining room. Whilst the room was generally clean and tidy we were amazed at the main staircase which had clearly not been vacuumed and dusted for a while. We were there three nights and it was only on the day that we left that we noticed that the staircase had been cleaned. There is limited parking directly outside the hotel but we managed to get parked on each day, although getting in and out occasionally proved difficult because a member of the hotel staff parked his scooter in the way. The beach was only just across the road from the hotel and just what was needed to cool off in the evenings. The hotel was handy for visits to Rye, Battle and Hastings and we also visited Sissinghurst Castle Gardens on the way there. Whilst there was nothing seriously wrong with the hotel there were just a few things that, with a bit more attention to detail, could have been avoided.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view on the front of the hotel

We stayed for two nights DB&B in room 502 at the top of the hotel just a few yards from the lift.

The room appeared to have been recently decorated I well in the last few months, it had new carpet. It was clean and well serviced and above average size, with two sea facing windows. The TV was not the best as reception was poor at times but it worked. I have seen comments about the furniture on other reviews, All I can say is that modern furniture would not be in keeping with a building of this age and what they have is appropriate for the building.

The bathroom looked well kept and everything in the room worked.

There was a third single bed in an alcove that was not used by us, this looked like it had seen better days but as we where not using it, it did not concern us.

The main staircase and the old lift are both impressive and unique to buildings of this period.

The restaurant has nice views out to sea and is on the second floor, with large windows as has the bar and lounge area. As I have already said we had DB&B included so eat on both days.
Breakfast was fine although they where a little slow at replenishing items on the buffet. some items like bacon and hash browns seamed a little under cooked both mornings. I have had better and had a lot worst and think the offer price of £9.95 at the time was stayed was a fair price if you where paying for it as you only had the room. We would have expected better had we had to pay the full price of £15

Evening meals where three courses for £17 had it not been included and where reasonable value. For starters we had soup was extremely hot may which made difficult to taste for 10min or so but when it cooled down tasted fine, prawn salad, melon which where ok. We had Duck, Australian steak which was a little tough, and Jerk Chicken that was fine for the main courses. Deserts we had cheese which came with about 25 large grapes not the normal 5 or 6 which was nice, fresh fruit salad and chocolate mouse. There where about six or seven choices for each course and the menu changed daily.

Overall the food was acceptable for the price however I would say that the chef liked to sprinkle dried herbs on a lot of the dishes, even the cold cooked meats at breakfast. With a little thought like refilling the buffet breakfast faster and checking the plates before they are put out. The dining experience could become excellent in my view.

We would definitely go back as long as it was an upper floor room and meals where included in an offer price. The £55 per person per night was about right for the service and quality of food we received.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor facing the sea are good rooms we had room 502
