Great vintage shops and old pubs. Historic alleys and steps lead up the hill towards the castle. Fascinating.

Having lived in Sussex in the past, this was somewhere we would always head. We still head back here, regularly, too now that we have moved.

The shop owners seem to make a real effort with their store fronts and the old town is a lovely place to happen across and explore-lucky you if you haven't already, you have a genuine treat in store! Just wish the old town was even bigger! The restaurants are good and the independent shops offer a good mix of arty, antique and creative. I love Brighton too (having lived there), but it often feels quite 'obvious' somehow. Hastings, in comparison, is like a little gem that you feel lucky to have discovered!

Have a milkshake in the 'green shop', make sure you visit 'Made' to pick up beautiful creations, take the funicular railway up for a wonderful walk with breathtaking views and behold the awesome net sheds whilst catching the little train into the more built up town area. Having a young child, we even like the arcades too!

If we hadn't had family ties elsewhere, we would have moved to Hastings - we often talk about it! I get almost homesick for Hastings if we don't get down here enough :)

There is a delicious mix of old an new and bars and restaurants and very local shops. Two of which are kind of our stock for present buying. This day we went to a couple of the pubs for a drink and so my so my boy could wield my camera. He's a bit good for six and he loved it. We chose The Stag and The Jenny Lind for their picturesque terraced gardens and had a lovely wander.
It seems too separate from the town centre which is a huge shame as they are clearly symbiant with one and other.

Visited Hastings Old Town over the August Bank Holiday weekend, and the place proved to be great fun, with lots of independent shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants, gift shops and some lovely characterful pubs. Visited with friends and we went there in the day and at night, and felt safe and welcomed, the place comes across as a much smaller Brighton.

Old Town is nice to explore. Lots of pubs, restaurants and nice little shops. But on a Sunday you find only a small selection of open places.
