“A rare find - authentic South Indian cooking and dining.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 December 2013

This is real south Indian cooking. It's not English curry so please don't expect to get your after pub favourites or Burger King turn around times.
I'm talking Idli, Dosa, coconut chutney and deep fried South Indian fish. We had these starters followed by a selection of rich curries (lamb, chicken and prawn) and there were no empty plates. I can recommend the beautiful little soft parathas too.
Service is relaxed (perhaps shambolic) for sure (again this is how it is in India!) but you are eating in a small family run outift so go with the flow or go elsewhere.
The lady of the house cooks (diners can view) and her husband serves so arrive early for a night in.
If you want to try food you won't find often outside of Tamil Nadu come here for quite and experience.

“Really, never again!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 November 2013 via mobile

We have eaten at Lakshmi (previously Taj) Mahal a few times over the last year or so and we've often thought never again. This time we really mean it!
We have had some good dishes in the past but service has been very poor and the food has always taken a long time to appear. This was a constant theme of other TA reviews when it appeared on TA as Taj Mahal.
This latest visit was truly terrible. The waiter snorted, cleared his throat constantly and was generally quite revolting. We ordered two starters and thought we would wait to see how slow everything was before deciding whether to order mains. There was one other couple in the restaurant yet it took an hour to serve us some pakoras and a horrible completely overcooked cauliflower dish. When we came to pay we questioned why the
pakora was £5.10 and not £3.70 as on the menu. We were told it was because we had a pickle tray and that was £1.00. The sums obviously still didnt add up! And
to add insult to injury we hadn't even ordered any pickles!!
Never again. And I do wonder why they have disappeared from Tripadvisor for the last few months....
