“Great base for exploring Hastings”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2012

We booked a two night stay midweek in the White Rock and arrived on a Monday. We had opted for a rear facing room as we wanted some peace and quite. My daughter also wanted a double bed to herself and they offer twin rooms with two double beds in the rear facing rooms.

We managed to park in the car park at the back, which was a bonus and found our way to the reception. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we were shown up to our room via the mini lift, which is minute but it's better than dragging your cases up the stairs.

The room was lovely, one of the most spacious I have ever stayed in and very clean and well appointed. The Hotel is very central to everything, 15 minutes walk to St Leonards one way and about the same to the old town the other way. Of course, the beach is just opposite and you have miles of options to choose where to sunbathe.

We had drinks in the bar that evening and breakfast the following morning, which I have to say was very impressive and good value. It's on top of the room price (£94.00 per double with double beds per night) but you get 20% off so it was well worth it. The full English is great and the fruit platter very nice too.

We had dinner on our last night because the terrace is such a lovely place to sit. Portions are very large, so we struggled a bit. The only disappointment is that they don't have a children's menu and we had to pay full price for an enormous sausage and mash and there was not a chance that a seven year old could finish it, which was a a bit of a waste. A children's menu would be a sensible idea..

It's a lovely hotel with great staff in an excellent location and my only gripe is that the walls and doors in our room seemed to be made of paper. We were treated to our neighbours televisions until 1am in the morning both nights as well as loud conversations and stomping about. The the guy across the corridors television woke us at 7am on our final day and we could hear every word of his telephone conversation. We might as well have been sharing a room with him. The doors have gaps underneath and even two doors and a corridor did not prevent the noise from waking us up. It's a shame really as otherwise this was a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, then top floor rear at the furthest end of the floor would be the best i...

We stayed here for two nights during June. Opted for a room at the front of the hotel which we knew would be noisy due the proximity to the road but we wanted the seaview. If we stayed again we would choose a room at the back as the road was very busy.
The room was average size with a newly decorated shower room which had a huge shower cubicle. We chose to not have breakfast as it was not included in the price which we found a little unusual. However we ate in the restaraount one evening as it was too wet and miserable to venture out. We had a nice meal which was reasonably priced. We would stay again on a return visit to Hastings.

We stayed for one night for a short weekend trip to Hastings. This hotel is very nice, the room quality is good although the walls in the corridors were rather thin! Bathroom huge and luxurious!

We did have an issue but they dealt with it well. We originally booked two or three days before using a booking website for a room with a balcony and sea view. We then received a phone call the next day saying the room we had booked wasn't available but that they had a another room in the hotel (still with a sea view) instead and rebooked us into that. When we arrived it was clear that something had gone wrong with this rebooking and we had no room booked. They were very quick to allocate us a room although it had no sea view with apologies.

We then went out to explore Hastings and returned to watch the sun go down on the balcony. The 'manager?' came out and offered us free drinks to apologise for the mix up which was a very welcome recompense and unexpected as well.

We also had a random man shouting in the corridors in the middle of the night but I don't think the hotel could have done anything to solve this problem. I think it was someone who had had too much to drink!

We didn't sample any of the breakfast, choosing instead to go to a nearby morrisons and then the beach for breakfast so I couldn't comment on the food. We did have a drink on their balcony overlooking the sea which was very nice.

They have tickets for car parks nearby as their own car park is quite small. We used an underground one over the road that was locked at 11pm.

I'd say we paid a fair price for the hotel, the room was pleasant and even with the mix up the staff were friendly.

After the horrors of booking into the grand hotel.( Our stardard room which was £19 cheaper than the grand ) was lovley and clean with a very comfy bed.Good standard of furnationings crisp white and fluffy towels,we would like to thenk them for taking us in after our nasty expirence with the grand hotel. If im going to be hyper critical if u have mobility promblems ensure u request a room close to the lifts as some of the corridors are quite long, but that is the only fault we could find. But would highly reccomend and stay at this hotel again

Room Tip: we had a room at the front with a sea view, was very quite had a very comfy night,a very enjoyable st...

Got a very friendly welcome. All the staff were very nice during our visit. The Hotel itself is a little "tired" and I thought breakfast should be included in the room price. The room itself was very clean and a good size however, the fridge did not work and although I asked for someone to check it for us nothing was done about it. The bathroom was great with a large bath and good shower. The bar food and breakfast were good with some very nice touches. We walked into town on Saturday night and had a fabulous meal at Whites fish restaurant, ask reception to book for you as it is very busy. The fish is exceptional.

We couldn't get in to our usual hotel so we booked here for two nights in October. The free parking was a nice touch, however the room and floors were slopped it felt like I was on a boat, the room was very hot and the street light was shining through the window all night.

Unfortunatly we paid for a room with a pier view but the pier burnt down 2 days before we went which was a bit pants, but not the hotels fault

Breakfast was ok apart from the big bit of boi ing (grizzly bit) in the sausage
