Review of The Laindons
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 22 Aug 2021
Malcolm and Karen were the perfect hosts and made our stay in Hastings extra special. Their attention to detail and amazing hospitality was second to none and we loved Malcolm’s enthusiasm and focus on making sure we had the best time we could. Their breakfasts were the stuff of legends and you really must try Karen’s blueberry pancakes they are fabulous! We very much enjoyed our time with Malcom and Karen and my only regret is that we didn’t have more time to stay a further night.

We have been meaning to get away for a long weekend in Hastings for ages. Karen and Malcolm's B&B is beautiful and very well located within the old town. The bed was great and the breakfast fantastic. Very well-kept property with a very high level of customer service. Will most definitely be back.

Perfect place for a couple or family to get away, spacious, comfortable and in a lovely part of the old town. Everything was provided in the room, the ambience was easy-going and Malcolm's veggie breakfast was fantastic. Loads of history to the building which was provided with the welcome book and there was a guest sitting room area too with many extras. Full bar + tea/coffee in each room, wi-fi, TV and less than 5 mins from the main eateries and beach. Perfect for what we wanted and would go back again for sure.

We had a wonderful stay with Malcolm and Karen. The room was beautifully decorated and had all the finishing touches (including delicious home made biscuits!). The breakfast was superb, especially the green smoothie and beetroot cured salmon. Finally, the hosts were extremely welcoming and we will definitely be returning.

Is this hotel the best kept secret in East Sussex?

Long story short - covid cancellation forced an eleventh hour search for an alternative venue for a 2 night playaway in East Sussex for my partner and me.

Enter The Laindons Hotel. Same price but.... Uh Oh... in Hastings......?

Forget everything you've heard about Hastings....

Providence threw us a proper Brucie Bonus with this booking! If you can stay anywhere in Hastings Old Town best make it the Laindons, a gorgeous Georgian 3 storey house kitted out beautifully with stylish modern furnishings and arts and crafts some of which are for sale.

Malcolm and Karen are wonderful hosts who even made a mix up with our room into a piece of comedic entertainment. ;o)

Our wrong room was the red room which is a symbol of good luck in certain cultures so the room mix up was a happy coincidence. The room is lovely and boasts a sexy red Bond chair to boot!

The in-room refreshments are to die for. There are welcome chocolates and the usual refrigerated minibar and snacks. But the complimentary selection of good quality teas and REAL ground coffee and cafetiere to brew your own combined with a mini bottle of FRESH milk is an attention to detail lesser establishments overlook tipped the scales..... And then there are those biscuits.......

You order breakfast the day before which is no biggie and means you don't have long to wait too long sipping freshly squeezed orange juice before you break-feast.

Day 1 - Full English (me - bacon and sauages are amazing. Chew slowly) Blueberry pancakes with bacon and maple syrup (partner) : Exceptional

Day 2 - Bagel with cream cheese and salmon (me). They get exquite smoked salmon from Rock-a-Nore Smokehouse on the seafront. Need I say more? Full English (partner).

Oh yeah, and there's this museli Greek yogurt pot they make that you have as a starter..... Did I forget to mention the toast? We sampled a prune and black pepper bread sourced from a local artisan bread maker. Man Oh Man.....

Hastings is Fabulous and made all the better for the discovery of The Laindons Hotel.

This is a lovely place to stay. Great location to walk around the old town, with car parking a short walk away. The hosts Malcolm and Karen and their staff are extremely welcoming and very friendly. The guess house is outstanding, having just been refurbished, with everything to the highest standard. Spotlessly clean and high quality property.

The breakfast is amazing and again served to the highest of standards, with a very personal touch.

This is the perfect place for couples to stay or small groups.

We would recommend The Crown pub to eat at night or somewhere on George Street. The local area is packed with antique shops, old book shops, home furniture, vintage clothes etc.

Further out I would recommend a trip to Rye Village. A beautiful place to visit too.
