Description: Here at Maggie's we're in our third decade of serving you hearty portions of the freshest fish, cooked to order, in a warm and welcoming cafe - the same traditional family-friendly approach as when Margaret Banfield first put her name above the door. We're right on the Fisherman's Beach - so you'll enjoy some spectacular views while you tuck in to our fish, direct from the market below us and our specials are straight off the boats with the morning catch - keeping a carbon footprint of less than 20 miles. You can't get fresher than that! Maggie's is licensed too, so you can enjoy a glass of wine or a beer with your meal. We are open six days a week, but it's advisable to call us ahead to reserve your table, and if you've got a special occasion, we welcome parties of up to 40 guests.

We had the basic fish and chips rather than the standard size and the portions were still plenty for adults. The restaurant is a little hidden away, actually amongst the fisherman's huts, but up some stairs with great sea views. Has an informal cafe feel with fantastic food, cooked superbly by Maggie herself. Last servings are sometimes quite early so check before you go to avoid disappointment. Well worth a visit.

Clearly popular in Hastings where good F&C is rare. The chips are fluffy edged and so crispy on the outside and a lovely yellow, due to good choice of spud, rather than coloured oil. Even the sub £8 F&C Cod is big, frankly others are heart attack. The batter is thin and crisp, the cod moist (to my taste undercooked, but fashionable). No doubt the fish is fresh but it wasnt especially tasty. They may have other fish types on offer not on the menu ie haddock, they certainly hide a lot of sauces - you have to ask. A side of mushies was also v generous. View of the fishing vessels lovely. I won't be going back but plenty do. Hasting needs a Northern style F&C shop with thick batter and flakely cod, it would be a big moneyspinner, meanwhile this is as good as the town seems to manage. (Go to Bexhill if you have a car and like F&C!)

Maggie opened specially for us on the evening of the 12th August, she fed 42 adults with the most delicious Fish & Chips. All freshly cooked in one hour. Her staff were lovely, and everyone really enjoyed the experience, we shall return I am sure. The portions were amazing, the chips to die for, the wine very reasonable, in the end an amazing end to a lovely day our with the St. Margaret's W.I. and friends. I fully recommend Maggies, Brenda

Took us a while to go to maggies but one visit confirms what everyone says. The fish is huge and the batter cooked to perfection. The chips are lovely and dry. The attention is good and the location is perfect and value for money. We book early to avoid disappointment. Wouldn't go anywhere else.10/10
