My family and I visited Lathams this evening for a family birthday. This was not our first visit to the restaurant and so we were expecting a pleasant meal. However, the evening exceeded our expectations.

Firstly, the service was excellent. All the team bent over backwards to make our evening the most special it could have been - even arranging a birthday surprise for the birthday boy! Our main waiter was particularly fantastic.

Most of the party chose a combination of the sunday lunch menu (still served in the evening). On this menu, the roast rib of beef was incredible and at £10.95 was extremely good value for money, especially considering the quality of the meat. Another two favourites were the lobster soup and the octopus off of the A la carte menu. Both these dishes were delicious. Our only (small) criticism was the roast potatoes were dry but otherwise all the food we tasted was delicious.

All in all a fantastic evening and we would definitely recommend this restaurant.

Well let's start off with the negatives, you need to be careful if you are a fussy eater like me as the menu can change quickly, and sometimes as the menu is done daily some things are missed off. Both the main meals we had our eye on when we booked on a walk past were not on the menu when we returned that evening, having said that both meals were available after requesting. Also be aware that some very fresh produce may be in short supply ie the mussels so let them know when making a reservation and they will take care of you. The service was very attentive but some members of staff had different information on what was available and what was not. They were all very friendly and tried to please offering different options for my rather fussy tastes. The meals we had were very good the mussels and the chicken. The food tasted fresh and well cooked. The Atmosphere friendly and warm with a gentle buzz. I ordered the profiteroles for desert but the were not fresh cream but patisserie cream which I did not like, they did not charge us for the dessert even without us making any issue of it. We have now booked to go back the next day for lunch with more of the family. Don't look to rush the experience just relax take your time and let things happen at the natural pace and I am sure you will have a lovely experience. Talk carefully to the staff about options....the mango sorbet is a highlight.

Unfortunately the food was not up to standard this visit. One of the meals was not good at all, having said that our complaint was dealt with very well but it did put a damper on our evening having to complain. Atmosphere was very buzzy and staff really nice and you don't feel that anyone is listening to your conversation so although busy it's also relaxing in a way.

Doesn't look like much, but the food impressed us. A small but varied dinner menu gave us each what we were looking for. Several vegetarian options available as well. We had the seafood linguini and the vegetarian paella. Wonderful flavours and beautifully presented. The staff seemed to be a little bit eccentric, which fit the quirky atmosphere perfectly. A definite great choice in Hastings, especially if you're looking for something other than fish and chips!
