“Great location for vistiting Brighton”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2012

We stayed at the Roebuck Inn for 2 nights using 2 rooms in July whilst down from Cumbria for our daughters Graduation in Brighton. We found the rooms clean, tidy and quiet.
The staff were very friendly and helpful from initial booking to leaving, and were very accommodating for both us, my elderly Mother and our Yorkie.
We found the location ideal for visiting Brighton & Hove, which took around half an hour in morning traffic.
The breakfasts were plentiful and we ate in the bar the second night where the food was very nice and reasonably priced.
We would recommend staying here and would definitely stay again when visiting our daughter.
D&S Griffiths,Cumbria.

Room Tip: We found the ground floor rooms to be very quiet.

I recently stayed at The Roebuck Inn for 2 nights. The staff were all very welcoming, friendly and helpful. The access to the rooms was separate to the pub, so you could come and go as you please. The rooms were clean and functional and even though it is located at the roadside there was very little traffic and i had an excellent nights sleep. The breakfast was well cooked, quality local produce. All in all it was excellent value - I would recommend staying here and would return if I was visiting the area again.

We've stopped at this Inn many times when travelling either to the South Coast or the Sussex countryside (which we do several times a year). The food is great - especially the burgers which are home made and cooked to order. The prices are reasonable but you can expect a bit of a wait to be served as the bar/restaurant is always busy (well, it has been whenever we've called here). We've never stayed overnight, but if the lunchtime food is anything to go by, we'd be more than happy to spend a night here. I think it would be a great venue for a wedding reception

We stayed here for one night in April 2012 after going to a wedding in Brighton and found it to be very friendly, clean and well-appointed. The inn was very friendly and homely, the locals were particularly friendly on the night we were there (with Sam the choccie lab being the friendliest fellow!) and the bar staff (only one young lad) very polite and helpful.
We are a young couple and we found the room met our needs- it was clean and not too small and had tea-making facilites, a television and a good shower with towels and shampoo etc. It was very quiet and we felt safe and we got a lovely nights sleep. Our breakfast was delicious and plentiful too.
Would recommend!

Answer: When it's at the Roebuck! Despite the presence of a huge banner hanging outside saying 'Morning Coffee and Afternoon Tea', when we turned up at the Roebuck on a sunny Saturday Afternoon at 3pm, we were somewhat surprised to be told that they did not sell Afternoon Tea, and (sic) 'if you had been here before you would know that we don't serve Afternoon Teas'! When we pointed out that the banner was outside and clearly stated afternoon tea, we were told by the one and only member of staff that we were upsetting her because we wanted afternoon tea! Er...a classic case of blaming the victim methinks!
Anyway, we settled for cups of tea outside in the garden, as it was a sunny day, but the garden has seen better days, rather ill-kempt, overgrown and recently used as a dog loo.
So, the moral of the tale is: don't believe the advertising at the Roebuck.
This is a shame as other reviews indicate that this pub has offered good service in the past.

i found the roebuck a lovely little country inn and living in a very rural area myself it felt really homely. staff seemed friendly and helpful. with the rooms on the side of the building was very nice and we could park the car right outside the door.
we had dinner here before we went to a wedding reception and the menu was very pleasant and the food was very good. however we stayed a couple nights and we did not have our sheets changed or bed made and we didnt have tea or coffee facilities topped up. i would proberly stay again if i was visiting the area again because i liked the layout and the rooms were nice.

I stayed here for one night with my wife and son in the family room as part of a tour of the south coast. We booked a family room, which was spacious, clean and well appointed. Loads of room for putting the travel cot up without bashing into it.

We wanted to go into Eastbourne for the evening (fancied some fish and chips and a walk down seafront), and the landlord couldn't have been more helpul in recommending a number of places to eat and things to do. I couldn't help thinking that they were losing out on two covers by doing so, but that didn't seem to bother them.

I was pleasantly surprised with how quiet the room was, even though our windows looked out on the front car park. After 11, there was practically no noise at all.

Got up to a lovely breakfast and the landlord took the time to ask us where we had come from, what our plans were, how we had slept etc, and seemed genuinely interested, which makes a nice change.

I definitely felt that we had good value for money out of our stay, and would happily stay here again given half a chance.
