We have visited Cote in Lewes High Street twice in the past week, on each occasion with friends, and each time we were very well looked after by friendly and efficient staff. I strongly recommend the chargrilled salmon which I had on the first occasion, and even more the Breton fish stew which I had on the second. Their crème caramel and the coupe noire are marvellous. The fougasse was far too big for one, and their crab mayonnaise had too much mayonnaise, but there are minor quibbles in what were two thoroughly enjoyable dinners. As always, the prices were very reasonable.
If you don't know Lewes well, beware the parking. There's not many spaces in the High Street, and only a dozen or so in the nearest car park in Westgate. Be prepared to park down the hill and walk back.
