After reading others’ reviews we stayed at the White Hart with low expectations, but were pleasantly surprised. Yes, the hotel is quirky, but our room in the eves of the old hotel was newly painted, warm and comfortable. We did, however, need help to get the TV to work (there's a knack). The staff are friendly and helpful and the bar and public areas are welcoming. The spa and gym areas were bigger than expected, although the gym equipment is serviceable rather than state of the art. However, if you like the predictability of big brand hotels, you may not appreciate the White Hart. It is a good value historic hotel. The hotel could do with a general re-furb, at which point it could be a lovely individualistic hotel.

Room Tip: The main hotel has more characterful rooms

We got the room at a reduced rate and we where happy for what we got. The annexe rooms are a little tired and you can hear the creaky floor boards but all in all not too bad, you might do better in the main hotel but we didn't view that.
The car park is down a small tunnel, there are not a lot of spaces and the main area is at the bottom of a very steep hill. Parking is first come first served so you are not guaranteed a space, the hotel wasn't full and we only just got a space on the Saturday when we returned.
Staff could not have been nicer, went out of the way to be helpful. Offering to help move our bags when we changed rooms, my only suggestion would be better TV's as they are small and the TV signal kept dropping off.
Breakfast was great, buffet breakfast, staff where happy to help and very attentive, only thing missing was a bit more fruit, only melon available.

Room Tip: Annexe rooms on 1st floor towards the hotel have small windows so are dark, 44-46, we moved into 43 which was much nicer. top floor annexe would have no noise from upstairs.

After reading all the reviews we were worried that we had made a mistake by booking the hotel. We were pleasantly surprised. The receptionist was welcoming, our room was clean and comfortable. Four of us ate in the restaurant on the first evening, and had 2 chefs and 2 waiters to look after us. The food was good, freshly cooked and tasty. Breakfasts were excellent, with plenty of choice. We used the leisure facilities several times - the pool is bigger than it appears in the pictures, there is also a sauna and steam room. The gym is a little tired but adequate. All in all we enjoyed our 3 night stay, and would definitelyreturrn.

Last minute business booking £70 B&B.
On a plus point, Lewes a is stunning little place to visit.

Right, upon arrival at the hotel I was greeted by a smoke open fire which immediately made my suit smell like it had been on a barby.
Reception - dated and antiquanted.
collected my room key for Room 20 3rd floor - it was a bigger than my leg!!
Up the narrow stairs to my room.
Opened door - Room smelt musty!!
Bedding - bobbly bed sheet and 1980's quilt and pillows as thin as tracing paper.
Decided to work rather than watch the 16" portable tv.
Went to reception,
"Ccan I have the WiFi access code please?"
"Yes" (i was handed a piece of paper with the security key on for access)
"What is your room number?"
"20" i replied
"Oh! Wifi only works in roome 1-3!!!!!"
Cut my losses and went to bed

Could carry on I wont - This little write up shpould say it all

Do not stay here it is poor, very poor!
Poached eggs where nice in the morning tho

Room Tip: Is there a good room or choose rooms 1-3!!!

Position in the centre of Lewes is brilliant which includes parking makes the hotel an ideal spot. Sadly the whole place is very tired, our rooms in the annex were clean, though the toilet bowl was cracked and the bath / sink surrounds mouldy, the other room had no hot water to the sink. The veranda outside was strewn with cigarette ends which no one has / had bothered to sweep up. The breakfast was good as were the staff, although the dinning room needed attention, lights broken and missing. Would stay again when you consider the price and location and they accepted our pets.
Did not have time to check the spa and pool which looked very good.

Room Tip: The annex was fine, the rooms in the hotel though better mean a route march up the stairs.
