“Beware of room 45 !”
Reviewed 21 October 2013

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights 18th19th oct 13' for my nieces wedding , the main hotel is very nice and has character , but the annex is a different matter , we stayed in room 45 and the bathroom leaved a lot to be desired , pink bathroom suite , with a white toilet seat that never stayed up ,ceiling artex bulging , floor tiles cracked , wall tiles cracked near taps , a hidden shower that just about flowed and a shower rail that was'nt fixed and as you pulled the shower curtain it just fell apart leaving the shower curtain needed to be re hung !!!
As it was my nieces wedding we payed our £95 per night and mention the bathroom problems only to be told by the man on reception that "yes we have had complaints about this room before " not even an appology or a reduction in rates !!!!!
I must say the food put on by the hotel for breakfast and for my nieces wedding was very good and bar staff a good laugh but as for staying there i would ask to stay in the main hotel and give the annex a miss esp dreaded room 45 !!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Stay in Main Hotel !!!!!!!!!!

We stayed in the Annexe-having been in a lovely old room before when I stayed a few years ago in the main medieval part of the hotel. Positives are that the hotel is in a great location on a nice old-fashioned high street, with parking, and the staff were really helpful. Our heating had a problem and it was repaired quickly-we were lent an electric heater in the meantime. The manager tells me ownership has just changed and they are looking to make improvements.

Room Tip: Ask not to stay in the annexe!

After reading many poor reviews on the White Hart, I was pleasantly surprised to find a small but very clean room , a new bathroom, and a nice quiet atmosphere . Breakfast was great . Will be staying there again . Great value.

Thank you, I think that recent changes to menus, a review of the way in which housekeeping is managed and some changes in the facilities we offer have had had a marked effect. I am delighted that you will consider returning and I look forward to welcoming you back.

Booked a one night stay with this hotel and checked in on Saturday 12 October, we were given a room in the Annex which was very dated and not very pleasant. On our return from a trip out we were lucky enough to meet a lovely lady called Alice who works on reception and she changed our room to one in the hotel, it was much more pleasant and more to the standard that we thought we had booked. Was a bit disappointed with the check-in as we were not given any information regarding where to go for breakfast or use of the swimming pool/sauna.
We booked to have a meal in the restaurant as they had a Rat Pack Man for entertainment, the meal included a welcome drink (we didnt get it), the potatoes were completely burnt and the conservatory we were in was very cold. The breakfast was very nice although it would have been nice if someone was there on our arrival as we were unsure as to whether we should just sit or wait to be seated. All said and done it was a nice hotel and a comfortable stay but would not recommend the annex and a bit more communication would have been nice, I would stay here again.

The 'posh' hotels were full, but this place had a rather dramatic looking indoor pool, and was economically priced, so we figured it would do for the one night.
'Tired' is the fairest word to describe The White Hart. Very tired.
Shabby, without the chic.
Our room was in the annex, a musty, tatty outhouse, tucked round the back of the butchered 16th century main house. The finish and decor reminded us of a school trip hostel. Loose tiles in the bathroom, wobbly light fittings, draughty windows and doors. Random pieces of office furniture, mixed with ill fitting curtains and dirty nets. The bed being the most uncomfortable resting place ever. Something like two bean bags in a quilt cover was pretending to be the mattress, with a black hole like void in the middle drawing everything into it.
The health club was a bit misleading. Although the pool seemed clean, the hopeless showers were poorly maintained and filthy. An open fire exit off the oddly arranged changing rooms revealed the extent of the buildings rot behind the scenes.
Breakfast was 'blunt'. Miserable staff bringing tea and coffee, a drought of fresh juice, and a self serve buffet of greasy fry up basics left a lot to be desired.
Relieved to check out

You can tell that the White Hart was once a smart hotel in the middle of this historic town. However, it clearly hasn't had any investment or redecoration for years. I had a room in the annexe which was straight out of the 1970s. The first room I was given was a ground floor one with no lock on the patio door (this for a female solo traveller who had specifically asked not to be on the ground floor). To be fair to the hotel they moved me upstairs without demur into a very similar room with a TV that didn't work properly (and which reception said they couldn't fix as it was due to the reception in the area). Two positives are location - the hotel is right in the middle of town and therefore handy for the station and restaurants - and that there is a swimming pool for the use of guests. However, my stay wasn't a very pleasant one, the room was incredibly hot (even with the window open this did little for the temperature) and the bed wasn't comfortable. I went out to eat as I didn't fancy the look of the dated dining room. I wouldn't stay here again unless it is modernised/changes hands.
