Description: The Pelham Arms is a traditional British public house at the top of Lewes High Street, serving Lewes’ best local and seasonal food with a relaxed friendly service in charming surroundings.Built circa 1640, this quintessential Sussex pub has original oak beams, an inglenook fireplace, courtyard garden and is full of age-old charm. We love children at the Pelham and your little (or not so little) lovelies are welcome in the pub until 8pm. Dogs are also welcome in the bar areas. We look forward to seeing you soon!

“would like to tell you about the food but can't”
Reviewed 7 April 2014

we visited early Sunday lunchtime , found a table & ordered drinks. When we tried to order food we were told they were only taking orders from those who'd booked. We sat a while to finish our drinks , admiring the half empty pub. Another couple turned up ,asked if they could eat , confirmed they had no booking & were promptly found a place.....

Sunday lunch times are busy but if you are fully booked perhaps make this clear to your customers when they enter your premises ....as we had found an unreserved table to sit at it seemed safe to us to assume in a pub that we'd be able to order some food to go with our drinks ?

I am sorry you where not able to eat.
We had an electrical problem in the kitchen during service on Sunday and it was decided that only booked tables would be served.
The problem was rectified and we started taking orders for a few walk-ins again. You obviously missed out. Very sorry.
We do get fully booked quite often so its a good idea for anybody coming to eat with us to call first. Generally there are some tables around the bar which we don't reserve, so we have space for drinkers, and walk-in diners if we have the capacity to serve food to more customers.
I hope you try us again sometime.

“Amazing Wedding Lunch”
Reviewed 24 March 2014 via mobile

We held our wedding lunch for 18 in the restaurant area of the Pelham Arms. It was faultless! Andrew and Simon ensured it was wonderful experience for us and our guests with fabulous food, a relaxed atmosphere and seamless service!

Communication and the planning with Andrew was excellent, nothing was too much trouble, which made us feel at ease from the start. The restaurant area was transformed for us into a perfect setting with a lovely ambience. The food was outstanding and our guest are still raving about the quality and variety.

We would highly recommend this lovely pub as a celebration venue and we will be back just so we can enjoy more of the fabulous food! Thank you Pelham Arms for making our celebration perfect!

“Cute pub but expensive”
Reviewed 16 March 2014 via mobile

The pub itself is lovely inside. But we found it very expensive. 2 drinks and a few snacks came to £31.

Thank you for your review.
I'm not sure what you ate and drank but £31 does seem expensive for drinks and snacks?
Our most expensive drink is a large glass of Rioja which is £7.70, so if you had two of those that would leave £15.60 for "snacks"?
I wonder what you ate? I guess it was sandwiches or starters if you spent £31 which would be about right.

“Great food and surroundings”
Reviewed 15 March 2014 via mobile

This is rapidly becoming one of our favourite places to eat. As vegetarians it's great to find a restaurant with a choice of imaginative dishes which change quite regularly. The quality of the food has always been excellent and the portion sizes and the prices can't be faulted.
Staff are very friendly and there's a great range of wines and beers from the bar.
All in all it's a great place to eat and we'd thoroughly recommend it for veggies (and carnivores!).

Thank you for your helpful review. I have always tried hard to give vegetarians a good choice I know from personal experience that just one option seems normal in many other pubs and this is not a choice for veggies. Thank you again.
