5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2014

We enjoyed three nights of this wonderful hotel. The location is superb and the bed we had in the Yellow Room is, perhaps, the best in England. Amanda and Adam, our hosts, create a convivial atmosphere, so much so that I rate our breakfast table conflabs as one of the main events of our trip (and the breakfasts are excellent). Thanks to you both, and hope to see you again.

I booked two rooms months ahead before my stay for my friends and myself for my daughters wedding for one night over the May bank holiday weekend and Berkeley House owner was so wonderfully helpful in every way. Even meeting me at my car on arrival to help me park which was so kind and thoughtful and saved me so much hastle. The property has been recently updated and the rooms and ensuites had a lovely fresh and contemporay feel. I had the blue room and I loved the softest white cotton bed linen and pillows, which on thinking back these were Im sure the best Ive ever slept in. I cannot not mention the breakfast, was also ever so special and served in the breakfast room downstairs. In summary I cannot fault my stay in any way at all. Berkeley House gets my 100% vote and I highly recommend to anyone looking for very good overnight accommodation in the centre of Lewes.

Room Tip: The Yellow Room (Twin) and the Blue Room (Double) are both upstairs on the same floor level if you a...

Some friends and I stayed in the apartment over the Easter weekend, and had a wonderful stay. The place is newly refurbished and modern, with everything we needed for a great weekend, even a pint of milk in the fridge and ice in the freezer. The bed was extremely comfortable, the shower hot and powerful and the breakfast as good as a five star hotel - really!
Amanda and Adam were the perfect hosts, very friendly and and extremely helpful.
The location is perfect, right in the centre of town on a beautiful street, and in 15mins we were walking on the South Downs.
I will definitely be back!

My husband and I stayed at the Berkeley House on the recommendation of tripadvisor reviews. It did not disappoint. We have been to Lewes many times for day trips and decided to stay four nights. The location is superb. It is a 10 minute walk from the train station of a 4 pound taxi ride with taxis outside the station. Owner Amanda was very prompt with all of our back and forth emails. We were show to the beautiful and spotless yellow room on the second floor (American 3rd) and our cases were carried up promptly. Fresh fresh linens and light bright room and walk in shower with powerful spray. No stepping over a tub! Amanda was a great host and breakfast cook! She will make whatever you like--and breakfast is served in a fresh and light bright dining room. Linens and mattresses are fabulous. Her suggestions for dinner were spot on--and we found the best Indian food of our trip at the upscale (setting not price) Spice Merchant about 5 minutes walk away. The B and B is steps away from the shopping district and a giant Waitrose and PaperChase and of course all the antique shops and auctions that Lewes has to offer. After one night, Amanda suggested we take the lower ground floor one bedroom apartment so we could spread out for our longer stay. That worked out well for us--and had its own entrance to the street. Good conversation, very nice hosts. Would certainly stay here again.

Like a couple of other reviewers I'd tend to go for a hotel rather than B&B and have stayed up the road in a hotel a few times. After reading the reviews and the hotels being fully booked I thought what can be the worst that can happen..... Amanda and Adam are lovely hosts it is really like visiting old friends and being welcomed into their house. My room was the on suite double. Smaller compared to a hotel double but plenty of room with lovely chest of draws and shower room. With wifi and plenty of room to work if needed or relax before exploring the area.
Amanda and Adam have a great local knowledge and can help with what to do or where to eat.

We are just enjoying our second night of a two night stay here at Berkeley House and I can only reiterate all previous comments. Our room is tastefully furnished, comfortable beds, fresh and clean. Amanda could not have been more helpful, as we have never been to Sussex before, she kindly lent us some guide books and has been very informative on where to eat in the town (we are keen foodies), and everywhere she recommended has been excellent.Unfortunately breakfast has been off the cards due to renovation to some of the rooms but Amanda not only compensated by reducing the room rate, she gave us discount vouchers to eat breakfast at a delightful cafe along the road. Lewes is a charming town, mercifully free of anodyne chain stores, it is the delightful individuality of its little shops and markets that makes it so attractive, and this is also reflected in this excellent B&B.
Berkeley House, may you live long and prosper!

Wouldn't normally stay in a B&B after bad experiences in the past, but did so here overnight in late January 2014 on a friend's recommendation.

The accommodation has obviously been thoroughly refurbished to a very high standard, with top quality, modern furnishings and fittings - whilst still retaining its character. Great en suite facilities, plentiful hot water, controllable central heating, Tv and (free) Wi Fi, comfortable bed and good drawer / cupboard storage.

Relatively quiet central location, not far from several public car parks - limited street spaces immediately outside (all metered).

Breakfast, served in an open plan kitchen / dinning room, was excellent with a very full range of food and beverages.

Owners were very friendly and obviously intend ( and succeeded in my case) to provide a first class stay at modest cost.

Nb.May not suit the very elderly or infirm as there is no lift.
