“Sticky tables and full of fruit flies, indifferent staff”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 January 2013

Could be so much better if they just paid attention to proper cleaning. The tables are sticky and when we went the place was full of fruit flies. The whole place was probably nice once, but it's all a bit tired - including the food. Its a shame - a good spring clean, a lick of paint and proper training of staff and management on how to properly clean cutlery and tables and this place would be so much better. As it was, what was intended to be a pleasant pi-stop for a snack was somewhat of an ordeal. I'm all for independent cafes, but independence isn't an excuse for shoddy slackness.

“Sticky things”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 December 2012

On a wet and windy day in Lewes, we found Robson's and went in for some lunch. An average jacket potato and soup. We had to ask for the dirty cutlery to be replaced. The table was extremely sticky - how the waitress moved the dirty teapot we don't know as it was stuck firmly. The staff were heavy handed with the crockery so it wasn't a peaceful lunch stop so take your earplugs. We didn't bother with a cake as we saw another couple order a piece but only eat about a quarter of it - assume it wasn't great! What a shame, it could offer so much more.

“Reliable tea room with good service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2012

As the previous reviewer mentioned, simple lunch places are surprisingly hard to come by in Lewes. This one is a good version of the standard English tea room/cafe; sandwiches, soup, cakes, scones, etc, and always plenty of options, both sweet and savoury. The service is friendly, the food is quite good and reasonably priced, and the room out the back feels light, open and welcoming. The back garden is lovely and has tables where you can sit, but I've never managed to get there when it wasn't raining - take a seat inside the big bow window and admire the view, instead. I would definitely recommend it for lunch or afternoon tea.

“A lunchtime favourite of ours”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 September 2012

Every time we go to lewes we always have a little wander around looking for somewhere to have lunch. We don't want a hot meal or a main meal, just a baguette, tea and cake - somewhere warm, dry with friendly staff - at a price that won't break the bank. I think that is why we end up at Robson's.
From the outside it looks like a little deli halfway up the main street. but it is actually a little TARDIS. At the back there is a delightful tea room with more seating in the basement. It is small and not as glossy as the chain restaurants in town, but it is warm, cosey, clean and friendly - I think rustic is the word. The staff are very busy but extremely friendly. The food is mainly sandwhiches, bageuettes, breakfasts and jacket potatoes which are really tasty and suitably garnisjed with salads etc. There are loads of cakes which might not be great for the waistline, but I have felt it my duty to taste as many as possible.
I was looking on tripdadvisor and found that Robsons has no reviews. I think this is kinda sad as for a quick, tasty, cheap lunch stop, this should be top of the list.
