“pity about their dog ban”

Southover Grange Gardens

fortunately when i visited i did not have my four legged friend with me. But i was disappointed that
there were large signs forbidding dogs to enter the gardens.
Surely they could control the few errant dog owners who allow their pets to be a nuisance without
discriminating against the majority.
I would have thought that a well behaved dog on a lead, and with an owner with the necessary
cleaning equipment, would cause little disruption.
I would have loved to return with our dog, but now will have to make a point of leaving her behind
every time i wish to visit here which is a shame.
Otherwise very well maintained and attractive gardens, well done.

We can't wait to come back and see the gardens in the summer when everything is in bloom. A romantic walk for a romantic weekend.

I've lived in Lewes for many years now and have taken my now teenage children here so many times when they were younger that I took this place for granted, however I walked throught it just before Christmas having not been for years and realised again what an absolute gem it is - even in winter. I'll definitely be taking a detour more often when in town so that I can visit again.

These gardens are beautiful, with an array of trees (all informatively labelled), a beautiful flowing stream and some wonderful artwork. However, the gem of these gardens is the craft shop, which holds handmade goods by many different designers, from greetings cards to glassware, there are so many beautiful pieces - definitely worth a visit.

This beautiful ancient walled garden has beautiful flower beds & herbaceous boarders interesting shrubs & trees. For example, there is a wonderful example of a tulip tree in the middle of the gardens. It sits next to the Tudor manor house of Southover Grange and views can be seen over the rooftops up to Lewes Castle.
These gardens are almost unique in England. It provides a safe place for families to picnic and children to play, for people to sit on park benches and quietly enjoy the view, or read a book. Unlike many other parks no dogs are not allowed, so children and babies can play safely, and avoid the common problem of dog faeces.
From spring onwards there is a cafe open for snacks and nearby there is plenty of seating for everyone of all ages to enjoy this open space.
