“Beautiful setting”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

This is a lovely park in Lewes, small and compact but beautifully kept. The flower borders are always well stocked summer and winter and in the summer the roses are out. If you want some peace and contemplation, the walled garden is a very pleasant place to sit and enjoy the outdoors.

“Stunning park”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

Very quiet park with some impressive old trees that are all labelled. No dogs being allowed is the best thing about the park. I go there to practice juggling without fear of dogs running off with my balls or stepping in dog poo.

Trip Advisor says that the Mulberry tree was mentioned in the Doomsday book, but this cannot be true. An information panel in the park says that the tree is estimated at 350 years old, not 1000 years old. I can't find any mention of the tree being mentioned in the Domesday book apart from on Trip Advisor. Still very old for a Mulberry tree and one of the oldest in the UK.

“Stunning”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

Not had the opportunity to visit these gardens for many years. On a sunny afternoon a friend and I wandered around each area taking in the clever planting, rainbow of colours, and hidden sculptures. We visited the showroom of the Sussex Guild of Craftsmen, some lovely pieces to purchase. The kiosk was doing a brisk business selling hot and cold drinks, lollies and snacks. There were all ages enjoying the space. Children playing, older people snoozing, workers on their lunch break. Very relaxing.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 10 August 2014 via mobile

Just 5 minutes from the station and high street these gardens are an excellent place for a picnic, or even just an ice cream and run-around.

Situated behind high walls and entered through a small iron gateway at either end it would be easy to miss if you weren't looking. Once inside the space is split in two by a decorative stone wall (materials taken from the priory ruins) with a large lawn area on one side and formal beds on the other.

It's free entry and was nice and quiet on a sunny June day. In fact the only negative is the simply horrible concrete drainage channel installed to prevent winter flooding. Surely there must be a less intrusive form of engineering?

“Lovely gardens! ”

We found Southover Grange Gardens purely by accident whilst making our way to another attraction in Lewes and we were so glad that we did! A very beautiful garden which is not only extremely pleasant to walk around but free of charge too! A hidden gem that is well worth a look!
