Great to visit a site that is free and so historic. You can climb in the ruins and get a feel for the size of the site. Only down side is the road noise from the A27.

“Attractive site blighted by road noise”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 January 2014

Tucked away yet easy walking distance from the town centre across the railway tracks, this once enormous Cluniac monastery is now a relatively modest series of ruins set pleasantly in grassy gardens. There's no charge to visit though parking is payable and the nearby metered car park has a 4hour minimum charge - when half an hour is more than ample... The main annoyance is the constant noise of the traffic on the nearby (if not visible) A27

“Interesting gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 December 2013

There ruins are nowhere near complete so its hard to actually visualise the size of the place when it was a priory. There are information boards which are very good that give information of what you can or could have seen. There are paths to walk on that are good. The nearest part of the priory that is complete are the monks toilets - but you do have to use some imagination when viewing them. Really interesting and steeped in history. Worth a visit if interested in history.

“Fascinating place if you like history”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 November 2013

The Priory ruins are in a lovely peaceful park. The ruins are substantial and give a tiny hint at the vastness of the original buildings, and variety of people who lived and worked there. The site is very well kept with good information boards. No toilets unfortunately (apart from the ones the 11th Century monks used, which are not recommended on a chilly day(.

“Atmospheric and intriguing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 October 2013

This is a wonderful place to visit, albeit a harsh reminder of how the vicious Henry VIII destroyed so much that was beautiful and spiritual. Lewes council has provided useful information boards but is largely hands-off. This means you can wander unhindered and try to imagine how the priory operated all those centuries ago. Very atmospheric and fascinating.
