This property has been wonderfully restored and architecturally, it is a beautiful building. What a pity it sits right next to the A260 where traffic thunders past at all hours of the day and night. After our experience if. Due to our experience of the cooked breakfast the night before at the YHA in Canterbury, we decided not to have breakfast here and catered for ourselves. The kitchen was excellent with everything we needed though a little small for the number of people staying there. The quad room was large and spacious and had a view of the downs. The downside of the stay here is the slamming doors. In 10 minutes doors slam 17 times. Why on earth could the doors not be fitted with slow release mechanisms? Young people do not let doors close gently

Hostel was beautifully clean and well maintained. The staff were very accommodating and extremely friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, freshly prepared and plentiful. We took a group of school children who were all very impressed with the bedrooms, food and facilities. The hostel is close to Lewes, Newhaven and not too far from Brighton. The cafe is bright and spacious with doors opening on to an outdoor area with beautiful views across the downs.
The only small niggle we had was the road noise from the main road situated alongside the long barn, this did not affect the adults on the courtyard side but the children in the dormitories on the road side of the building were disturbed.

Room Tip: Courtyard and main hose rooms are quieter than those adjacent to road.

I visited this new YHA on its’ first open day and was very impressed. The rooms look excellently well-appointed and the common rooms looked very comfortable. The common rooms and some of the bedrooms are in the old part of the building, which was originally a chapel before it became a farm. I had afternoon tea in the cafe, at the other end of the group of buildings, which was very pleasantly appointed and also had seating outside.

This new hostel is right on the South Downs Way at the point where the route crosses the river Ouse and the railway line. It a great place to stop en route, but it’s also a great place to start your walk as there is a station within a few hundred yards. Just look for Southease station on your guide.
Nearby is the beautiful little hamlet of Southease village with its wonderful historic church, dating back to Saxon times.

Room Tip: If you are walking the South Downs this is right on the route. you can get here by rail as well!

We stayed for 1 night having cycled down from London and had heard good things about this hostel, this was the first YHA property I have stayed in and if they are all as good as this we will certainly return.

Located a few miles from Lewes nr the village of Southease it is well located for the ferry at Newhaven (3 Miles) for those cycling London - Paris via Dieppe. There is a train station 100metres away with services to Brighton however we didnt use this as the last train on a Saturday is 7pm.

From the moment we arrived we were well looked after, we had a twin room with a bunk bed which was very clean, the bikes were stored away in a secure storage shed. Dinner was served in the restaurant and was of a very high standard for a very reasonable price.

The perfect start to our trip!

we stayed for 2 nights (a friday and saturday) in a double room (bunk bed) with shared bathroom.

the room itself was comfortable, warm and had a sink in there. would have been nice to have a double bed but was not a problem.

The kitchen was excellently stocked and very clean. There is a nice seating area as well.

The staff were really friendly and helpful and the fact that the hostel is right on the south downs way makes any walks really easy to get to. It is a 4 minute walk from southease station which has hourly trains to Lewes making it easily accessible.

We had a great time and would definitely go back and stay there again.

Rory,

I am pleased that you had a good stay with us. Should you stay with us again we do have a couple of rooms that have double beds, which are very popular. It is always worth booking well in advance to get these. We hope to see you again soon.

Thanks
Dale
