The building is set in the country, with rolling hills for scenery. it is very nice, newly refurbed. Rooms were modern with new bunks. The bathroom was nice with modern shower. There is communal lounge' bathrooms and a kitchen for self catering which all looked superb. Outside there is camping pods, in the style of huts' these looked fab for people wishing to camp. Breakfast was lovely, served in the cafe. A 5 minute walk away is the train station which takes you into Brighton.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review our hostel, as a relatively new hostel it is great to hear any comments that you have. It is lovely to read that the hostels rural location was enjoyed as well as the transport links that keep YHA Southdowns linked in with the local area were helpful.
The camping pods are the newest addition to our facilities so the fact that they looked appealing is really great.

Thanks again, hope to see you again at YHA Southdowns.

The hostel itself is gorgeous with lovely staff and good food and facilities. It even has motion sensor lights so if you go to the toilet at night the lights come on automatically for you. The cafe is great with a walled garden outside for children to play. Overall the noise from the road can be very bad depending on which room you have.

Our room was a problem. It had several things wrong. Several electric sockets didnt work. The lights for one set of bunks didnt work. The door could not be locked from the inside so was open all night if sometime tried to come in. None of these were fixed in the 4 days we were there.

Our room - Long Barn 2 was truly awful -it was like the Black Hole of Calcutta. It had no window but a skylight whicch couldnt be left open at night as rain would come in and there was awful noise fron the road. The skylight also opened directly onto the noisy main road - it couldnt have been worse situated. The room was so hot at night that my children were covered in sweat as they slept. We ended up the last night wedging the door completely open with a shoe to get some air - a bit risky but we just had to do it.

I have recommended to the hostel that noone else stay in this room until windows have been put in facing onto the inner corridor to give some air and light. We are not the first to have found this room extremely uncomfortable!

Room Tip: Do not stay in Long Barn Room 2(4 bed family room with no bathroom) - it is awful. There may be other windowless rooms so check you get a window before you stay. Also rooms on the non road side are better.

Super conversion and location.
Half mile walk down lane to Railway Station with easy connections to local seaside towns.
Staff helpful and food excellent.
Would agree with comments re road noise and slamming doors.
