Today we are at The Anchor Inn in Barcombe, a pub we have heard of but never visited. The setting is wonderful, right up against the river Ouse, and you can hire boat to take you up stream! The food is typical pub grub done well at reasonable prices with a decent selection of beers and a vast selection of other drinks. Slight downside was just the one real ale on but since it was Harvey's and we were told as they get busier a guest ale would be available also. This was relayed to us by a very friendly chap at the bar who was very attentive to our needs even though they don't provide table service.
Just a very pleasant experience. Will return when the weather's a bit warmer.

Went for a lovely Sunday roast only to be told that they only did sandwiches for people that hadn't booked. Tried to order cheesy chips but the chef apparently didn't have cheddar cheese?! The sticky toffee pudding was disgusting and they got the order wrong...basically pub grub at its most basic.

My companion and I visited the Anchor Inn on Saturday lunchtime. The weather was glorious for March (for any month come to think of it!). We ordered some food and a drink and sat in the gardens. It was peaceful and very relaxing. We only ordered chips with our drinks so can't really give an opinion on the food, although the chips were perfect.

The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly and very helpful. I shall definitely return. Highly recommended.

We found the Anchor Inn completely by chance doing a cycle around the area. What a lovely location on the River Ouse. The pub itself had two small bar areas and a small dining room off to the side. The sun was streaming into the dining room, and along with the open fire made for a lovely Saturday lunch. Home made soup and bacon and Brie baguettes were delicious. A large beer garden which looks like it could get busy in summer. The staff and owner were friendly and very helpful. I can see on a busy Sunday or summers day that the bars being quite small might mean some service delays per previous reviews, but yesterday with a few students, locals and ourselves it really was excellent, with a relaxed atmosphere, good food, nice staff and a fantastic location. I'd thoroughly recommend giving it a try. We'll be back.

I was wary of eating here following some of the reviews. However we had a wonderful afternoon.
We pre-booked our table and received a call to advise us that due to the high winds blowing down a power line that they had a power cut. They kept us updated and let us know that it had been fixed and power resumed.
We arrived to a warm reception with two open fires. The food was tasty with generous portions and we were well looked after by our waitress. There was no room for a pudding!
The owners were equally lovely and welcoming.
I will be returning soon. Thanks for such a lovely afternoon.

Myself and a friend walked from Lewes to the Anchor Inn, Barcombe, for Sunday lunch - what a fantastic meal in a beautiful setting! I treated myself to one of the Sunday roasts on offer from a very wide selection of lunches - it was really well-presented, very large portions (but not in an off-putting way), really good quality produce - and I particularly liked the gravy. We didn't have dessert as we were too full sadly. The owners were lovely and even offered to give us a lift back to Lewes after! What's not to like? Thanks so much for making our afternoon so memorable, we'll definitely be back soon ...

Everytime I go for lunch here, its great, Sunday lunch is a real treat, crispy roasties, lovely and varied veg and good meat. The welcome is always first class, the atmosphere friendly and the food tasty. The kids were a loud and played in and out and at no time did we feel any more than welcome.
The decor is clean comfortable and with a rustic feel that fits in with the building and the location. The owner, manager and staff always pleased to see you and cannot do enough to ensure you are comfortable.
My favourite times are in the spring and early autumn when they have the fires burning, but it is also a great spot for summer walk ending with a drink and a meal and they have extensive gardens and boating on the river.
Thoroughly recommended.
