“Less than the sum of it's parts”
Reviewed 29 September 2012

We were disappointed by the Pelham House - it could be so much better.

For the money we would have expected a bath instead of just shower, and tiny telly is also less than we would expect for the money charged.

Little things seem to be missed, such as the shower units being tatty and the fact that because yale type door locks are used it's quite noisy with doors slamming.

Breakfast was good, service almost too much and perhaps out of proportion to the relatively modest level of hotel room.

I don't mind the lack of parking as that's not their fault, but for the money charged and the amazing old building it could be much better.

We will be back down in Lewes again (go racing at Plumpton) but wouldn't stay here unless management make some changes.

Spent my sisters 30th birthday meal here, some of the food was superb, the beef cheeks, pigeon and all starters but others in the party had the complete opposite experience, they had bad main meals that weren't replaced or offered to be removed from the bill. I was one of one lucky ones that had gorgeous food but I do feel that the entire party should have enjoyed their food as much as me. We are torn on our feelings about this restaurant......

We stayed for 2 nights in July - first visit to Lewes (as adults!) and liked both the place and the Hotel very much. Friendly efficient helpful staff at the Hotel, lovely gardens, candlelit at night, nice bar - overall an expensive treat but a nice one. (Room not large or opulent but clean, large enough, and a very comfortable bed and amazing nights' sleep - with breakfast on the terrace served by friendly, if forgetful staff.)

We have just arrived back from our honeymoon and quickly wanted to write a review of our wedding at Pelham house on 17th august 2012. From the moment we met Steve (the wedding planner) he gave us complete confidence. Not only was the venue perfect for us he was also the most perfect wedding planner we could have ever asked for. Throughout the whole process he made us feel relaxed and nothing was ever a problem, he was extremely patient with all my questions!! The day itself was absolutely perfect in every way possible way, Steven and the rest of the staff were so friendly and helpful to all of our guests and everything went so smoothly. They all went out of their way for us to make it as perfect as possible. The chef is fantastic and so many of our guests commented on how great the food at the wedding breakfast was and the evening buffet. I stayed for two nights with family members and it was such a laid back / relaxed hotel that it felt like a second home. Breakfast at Pelham house is also delicious! I was always concerned that if you didn't hire a venue exclusively you could get interrupted by other guests but this was certainly not the case - it was the very opposite.

Thank you to Steve and all the other staff who helped make it so special for us. It really was the perfect day and a huge part of that is due to you. We look forward to coming to visit again soon to stay in your perfect hotel.

Nice hotel with central location. Welcoming staff. Dinner was a disappointment, and we wished we'd eaten elsewhere in town. For the price charged, the dishes provided were very ungenerously portioned, so we were still hungry after the meal. Breakfast satisfactory but service could have been better.

Pelham House is tucked away like a hidden secret , just behind the high street. A quality jewel of a hotel where they pride themselves on their old fashioned service.
My advice - spoil yourselves and go for an executive room for your special weekend away.
One word of warning if you want parking - get in quickly and book a space as there is no big car park

Stayewd over for a wedding and I must say it is a perfect venue for a private event. The hotel is very pretty with a great garden but a little tired. The staff really make you feel very welcomed. The food is not as good as it should be and it is essential to pay for the parking space at the hotel. The town of Lewes is well worth a visit if you want cute English village. The hotel is not what I call vfm at £75.00 per nt as it is trying to be what it is not as it does look somewhat tired. if the decor and the food matched the price this would be a great place.
