This is a very nice hotel and restaurant set off the high street and just 5 mins from the railway station. The hotel is well appointed and the staff very pleasant and not over familiar. I lunched, as normal, with a friend who is equally exacting whilst not picky.
The set lunch read well from the menu but I was a little disappointed to find that the kitchen was still based in the 2000's and served nicely presented and flavoursome but miniscule portions. Do try to secure a table on the terrace, the views over the gardens are very appealing.

Pelham House is beautiful, centrally located and well kept. I loved the gardens, artwork and well appointed rooms. This should have been a perfect stay.

Except for feeling like a wedding crasher!

Our room faced onto the courtyard/car park and we were woken at midnight by wedding guests departing. Inconvenient, but that, we thought was that over. Until were were woken an hour later by car engines running, loud goodbyes and shouting which went on until 1.30 by which time we figured the hotel staff weren't going to ask the taxi drivers to switch their engine off while they waited, or ask guests to leave quietly.

My partner rang down to reception to enquire when the guests would be gone. He was told they'd all left. They hadn't, was given no apology, by was told that they would ask the wedding party to be quiet. Reception is parallel to the room we had, so staff should have been aware of the noise. The rooms need sound proofing work if they are running both a hotel and late night event venue. That or weddings are booked as exclusive use, as the venue can't get the balance right.

Breakfast the next morning was underwhelming (uncooked toast, half a thin slice of black pudding) and my eggs were badly cooked, although to be fair the service was lovely and friendly.

A note on the car parking - we were told to park at the station at a cost of £5.50 per 24 hours. Parking actually expires at 4am, so you need to buy 48 hours for an over night stay.

Check out was too busy to wait and complain so we dropped our keys and regretted our decision to pay £160 for a bad night's sleep and a hard poached egg!

Pelham House is an historic building standing just off High Street in Lewes. It has the most upmarket restaurant in the town. Pelham House is stylish, and has character. The food is excellent. It is frequented a great deal by people going to the Glyndebourne Opera. There is a large garden at the rear with magnificent views across the towns towards the sea. This is an excellent place to chill out with a drink in the afternoon or early evening. Pelham House is a great place to go for a special occasion. My wife and I went there for our wedding anniversary. It is popular so it is advisable to book a table.
We went on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was almost full. The service was excellent. The Chef is Glenn Lester, who has an impressive CV including Head Chef at a Michelin and AA rosette restaurant. He likes to use quality seasonal and locally sourced produce from Lewes and the county of Sussex. I had a vegetable soup for starters. It was delicious. My wife had duck, also excellent. For the main course we both went for Roasted Ribeye of Beef. It was magnificent. The amount of beef on our plates was impressively generous. My wife could not finish hers. It came with roasted potatoes and carrots. The sauce was perfect and I even liked the Yorkshire pudding – a ‘first’ for me. We were so full that we could not manage a dessert. There is a good wine list, mostly priced between £20 and £30. We had a mid-range bottle of Malbec which was very good.
We agreed that it was the best restaurant meal we have eaten for some time. The bill was less than £70 which we thought very reasonable indeed for this kind of quality. They also do a two course menu for £19.50, a three course menu for £25, which is extremely reasonable. There is. five course ‘Gastronomic’ or ‘Tasting’ menu for £35, or £60 with wine.

We stayed here for 2 nights and had the most enjoyable stay, The food was delicious (you can eat inside or on the terrace...we ate breakfast on the terrace in the sun) and the room was lovely, clean and comfortable with a fantastic view over the garden and the South Downs. The hotel is beautifully decorated and the staff were really helpful and pleasant. All in all a perfect few days... I can't wait to re-visit!

Nothing was too much trouble for the staff here. They had a very busy weekend with three weddings and still managed to help me find a phone charger and bring my delicious breakfast in bed complete with homemade granola. I loved the period touches in the room and the fact that a single room was not the size of a shoebox as it so often is in the inner city. A gorgeous garden with great views of the downs and absolutely terrific staff finished this off.
Only downside was the lack of parking which having driven from London for about 2 hours was a bit annoying to then have to drive a little further to park in the train station. If you have mobility issues or just hate steep hills like me this may be a problem because the hotel is at the top of the hill and the car park is at the bottom. Word of advice the machine did not accept coins when I was there so I had to use the phone line but it was convenient this way anyway.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the car park are not the quietest. try to get a room above ground level if possible.

After a nightmare with another hotel in Lewes the Tourist Information Centre found us a late cancellation here. Not only were the staff lovely and helpful, the room was great and breakfast was perfect. We are really glad we got let down by our original choice because the Pelham was much better and cheaper too!

After booking tickets for the Mumford & Sons Lewes stopover didn't realise how much trouble I would have finding a hotel. With limited choices and desperate to secure a room I went for the Pelham House. It was a bit over budget but looking back worth every penny. The room was perfect and my daughter loved the bathroom. By the time we got back from the gig it was about 11.30pm and we were very tired, pleased to say we had a good nights sleep - lovely comfy bed. In the morning we went down to breakfast and because it was nice outside we dined out on the terrace. The food was lovely, the staff brilliant. The hotel is in the town and a very short distance from the train station. All in all we had a lovely stay.
