Not quite as atmospheric as Charleston, but we we're having a Bloomsbury set day! The church in the village is worth a visit and it is still quite something to step into a little piece of modern cultural history. It was an idyllic summer day and quite frankly a quintessential English experience.

We visited because I wanted to visit to see the vegetable garden, which gave me loads of ideas and the cottage garden also provided lots of inspiration.
We are normally 'eat in the restaurant' people, but seeing there is not one, we took a picnic, which we ate in the lovely grounds, and I recommend that you do the same.
I think this place had the most knowledgeable and helpful NT staff that I have found and this made a tour round the house and pleasurable as seeing the garden, which was the focus of our trip.

If you're visiting Charleston House, the former home of Vanessa Bell, make sure you also make the short trip to her sister Virginia Woolf's house, Monk's House at Rodmell. It's another iconic place in English literary life and fascinating to see the Virginia's home, including her bedroom and writing room, and then wander about her beloved gardens.
