Not the most modern hotel, but what do you expect, it was rebuilt in 1420. Very friendly staff, very clean, room comfortable even though my husband had to walk around stooping, due to low ceilings. Given the age of this building the interior was very spic and span. A hotel with a lot of character. Did not eat in the restaurant, but the bar food could of been a bit more varied, not very inspiring

Room Tip: Maybe not at the top, woken by the seagulls on the roof every morning

We've just spent a couple of nights at the mermaid hotel. Very impressed, excellent service, first rate food, just need to be aware that some of the quirky bedrooms have very low beams which don't suit anyone who is 6'3

Could not fault this hotel, lived up to all expection and beyond. Charming, good food, comfortable bed, excellent service, professional and friendly. Good value for money. Not an ideal place for someone with limited mobility but it was rebuilt in 1420 and would be impossible to to update. I managed quite well with two replacement hips and replacement knee.

We booked this hotel as it was near the hotel where our friends were getting married. We stayed 28th & 29th March. It is a very old Inn and is fantastically preserved keeping the character but still provides a fantastic stay. We had not problems with our room whatsoever and the view was fantastic from our window. Yes it's not the best power shower in the world, the furniture is old but then so is the Inn that's part of the charm (some people need to look before they book reading previous reviews). We loved the fireplaces and relaxing with a coffee after dinner ..... very nice with a brandy and coffee. The staff were fantastic, thanks to Ryan, Luke and Ludovic in particular who looked after us so well but all the staff were fantastic. The only down side is the car park but the staff sort everything out and even help you get in and out if you have trouble parking as it is small. The WIFI was fine it took a while to contact the first time but after that it picked it up every time we came back to the hotel. We would stay again, Thank you.

No WIFI, No mattress protectors..,yuk, No pillow protectors, No bathrobes, No bedside cabinets, No candle light, full bright lights everywhere day and night. No music in restaurant = no atmosphere, No privacy, can hear everything from room next door, room below and above..... Expect no sleep due to noise from thin walls and cheap thin curtains let the light through curtains......Overpriced. Don heck if you ever have a proper shower and whatever you do do not use the ground floor toilets as they are in full view of anyone in the hall.

Room Tip: Take your earplugs and keep your noise down

What a fantastic hotel. Plenty of character. This is an old hotel, have a look at the photos, it was re-built in 1420. Someone said there are 11 different staircase leading to the different levels along narrow corridors. Each bedroom is unique.

The bar with it's huge fireplace is great, I enjoyed the bar food (I didn't eat in the restaurant) and the real ale.

The breakfast were excellent and the staff were pleasant, very helpful and friendly.

I will definitely stay again next time in Rye.

The Mermaid has tremendous character and atmosphere and the staff were very welcoming. It was also very pleasant to have drink in front of the fire in one of the ante rooms, whilst we studied the extensive menu. The service was prompt and friendly and the food was excellent. Our only disappointment was the rhubarb creme brulee, which was certainly not good value for money. We were assured, however, that the chef would address this issue. Otherwise, a very enjoyable experience.
