I'd been promising myself a return visit to this wonderful hotel since 1994 and hopefully it won't be twenty years before I get back because it's fabulous ! The tangled maze of rooms date from the 1400's and the snug lounges ooze history . . . which you can research online as the WiFi is excellent . We ate in the restaurant and it was very good . Top scallops to start and the chocolate desert was awesome too ! Outside Rye is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful old towns in the UK , it's a bit coffee/giftshoppy but just wandering around the old cobbled streets is a real treat .

We recently visited Rye, England for a wedding and stayed 4 nights at The Mermaid Inn. Rye, itself, is a beautiful place with much to see and do. The staff at The Mermaid were always very polite, courteous, professional, and friendly - this includes everyone from reception, to the wedding reception servers, the doorman, to the room maid. The rooms are beautiful and very clean, and the hotel is well kept and attractive. Despite the close proximity of rooms, it was incredibly sound and quiet. The place is steeped in history and magnificence.
I'd highly recommend the place to any traveler.

We stayed for our wedding anniversary and got an upgrade. Some of the rooms are haunted but the one we stayed in wasn't. There is a lot a history in the hotel and lots of information can be found. The staff were very knowledgeable too.
The food was excellent. We had a 3 course dinner and full English breakfast the next day. The Night Porter carried on serving drinks after the bar had closed.
The bed was comfortable and the staff were polite and helpful. We would highly recommend a stay here.

I came here for valentines with my partner. Although a tad expensive, The staff were great, the room was lovely and the evening meal was to die for.
I can recommend for a treat . Only downside .... Parking, the car park soon fills up.

Came for a friend's wedding in Rye & the place was absolutely stunning. Beds were superbly comfortable, all our rooms were beautifully decorated & the breakfasts the next day were delicious. The staff were so pleasant & polite- one rushing to find us an iron the morning of the big day. All in all, an excellent stay.

Lovely Inn and full of old English Charm. The only trouble was absolutely no sleep in the two nights that we stayed for. Simply, its Seagull paradise. They start squawking at 3am and keep going until you go to breakfast. I would definitely visit for the day. The food was great and the bar and surroundings a bonus. I definitely won’t be staying again. It’s not the fault of the hotel, but you tend to pay these prices for a decent sleep. I would add, that you should ask for a room near to reception or you could risk being put up in a room at the top of the hotel where it’s rather cumbersome to take your luggage, let alone oneself up the stairs.

Room Tip: Near to reception.
