“Brilliant 5th stay ”
Reviewed 18 February 2017 for a stay in November 2016

We booked for the fireworks display at the local pub, the Robin Hood. We have stayed at different times of the year and always enjoy our stay, hence returning, and have recommended to family and friends.

The cottage is comfortable and has everything in you need. The log burner in the colder months is great. You can use the hot tub even if there's snow on the ground. The pool is a good size. We have booked again for the summer.

Looking forward to see how the cabin is coming along.

It's a central location for Rye and the beach at camber and other costal towns.

Peter and Karen are so friendly and always there to help. There is lots of information in the cottage.

Well worth the visit

Yes, your 5th stay! Your weekend in July will be great as there's so much to see and do in this fantastic area through the summer months - or you can just chill-out in the garden with the loungers, BBQ and the badminton set...? The only downside is you've only got 3 x nights and NOT 7... Oh well, you'll just have to come back again! We wish the 3 of you a lovely Easter break and look forward to seeing you again in late July. Best wishes, Peter, Karen, Ollie (and Ringo, the elderly German Short-haired Pointer).

“Amazing short break with young family - highly recommend”
Reviewed 7 December 2016 for a stay in December 2016

Stayed for two nights in December to celebrate our wedding anniversary with a young family (5 month old) and couldn't recommend Blackthorn highly enough.

Immaculate, comfortable accommodation with the hot tub, private pool and log burner being real luxury touches. We booked for a relaxing break and two evenings spent under the stars in the outdoor hot tub delivered just that!

Peter & Karen were incredibly friendly and welcoming and made our occasion very special with a banner on arrival accompanied by a bottle of fizz and freshly laid hen eggs!

There is plenty to do in the area - more than we could manage in a couple of days - and we will certainly be back to do more, particularly in the summer to take advantage of the outdoor seating area facing the sun with lovely views.

We cannot recommend Blackthorn highly enough and on the way out Peter and Karen were kind enough to show us the cabin in the copse that is nearly finished and looks simply amazing.

That was a speedy review considering you only left Blackthorn yesterday! Thanks also for your kind words. It was great to have you staying with us, and please try and come in the summer as this area is bursting with opportunities for memorable, family days out. We are more than happy to accommodate a young family in 'Little Owl' - our glamping cabin in the copse - and so if you can think of a like-minded young family you'd like to holiday with, then you could book both places at an agreed rate, and the two babies could be splashing about in the pool while one set of the mums and dads were relaxing in the hot tub, for example... Basically, so long as the baby or toddler can squeeze into a travel cot then young families are most welcome at both Blackthorn and Little Owl!

Thank you for the complimentary and informative review. Being National Trust members does pay dividends in this area: Batesmans, Bodiam Castle, Lamb House, Smalhythe and Scotney are easily within striking distance, with Sissinghurst and properties nearer Lewes about 50 minutes drive away. And then there all the house and gardens under different schemes or ownership: Great Dixter, Pashley Manor, Hole Park - the list goes on... You'll just have to return!!!

“Lovely Accommodation!”
Reviewed 8 October 2016 for a stay in October 2016

We had a great mini-break at Blackthorn Cottage. The cottage lived up to all the excellent reviews and the owners had thought of everything. Nice to have fresh duck eggs for breakfast! Enjoyed the swimming pool and hot tub and sitting on the terrace overlooking the gardens. Did some lovely coastal walks and even had sunshine! Hope to return in the future, maybe try the new "glamping" chalet!
Thank you Peter and Karen.

Many thanks for the positive review. Yes, please return and experience the cabin in the copse when it's completed- I think you would be the ideal guests! As you know, the surrounding area (AONB) is criss-crossed with numerous public footpaths including the 1066 Country Walk that runs along the stunning Brede Valley just to the north of us, and I think Blackthorn and our new 'glamping' venture are both appropriate to guests looking for a good base to explore this interesting area on foot with a touch of pampering and comfort at the end of their day out... We'd like to keep you posted with updates (and offers) for our (still un-named) cabin in the copse. Any suggestions?

“a hidden gem”
Reviewed 28 August 2016 for a stay in August 2016

Well what can we say?
An absolute gem of a place, beautiful surroundings, gardens, accommodation, hot tub and swimming pool!!
Top this off with Peter and Karen the owners who are so friendly and started our holiday off with freshly laid eggs and a bottle of prosecco.
Peter's knowledge of the local area is astounding.
We had red hot weather to add to this 4 day break, however there are so many places to visit that even if the weather wasn't as good still book!!
Do not hesitate!!!!

It was really lovely to have you both at Blackthorn. Thank you for the review, and we hope you will have the chance to return someday... You took in the town of Battle and its historic battlefield, visited Beachy Head, canoed along the river Rother and discovered Bodiam Castle, but now know that there is so much more to enjoy in this special area if you should decide to return... We hope you do! Best wishes, P K & O

Karen and I are really happy you enjoyed your anniversary weekend - despite the weather being a bit unpredictable at times.
Yes, please come back for longer next time if you can... As you know, you've only just scratched the surface in what this special part of East Sussex has to offer!
See you both again soon.

“Second visit but not our last!”
Reviewed 3 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

This was our second visit to Blackthorn and it was as amazing as the first time. We absolutely love the lodge and grounds and enjoyed relaxing in the sun on the balcony overlooking the gorgeous scenery. Peter and Karen are fantastic hosts, so helpful and welcoming. The hot tub is a great place to sit and watch the stars, we barely left Blackthorn as it is so relaxing and homely. Everything you could need is provided and it is spotless!!
Thanks for another amazing weekend, we will be back!!

Thanks so much for the great review. You made the most again of your short time here, and we're glad you had a successful and relaxing break. You also experienced the scenic route through the Brede Valley to one of the best pubs in the area too!
