“Woofing Marvelous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2014

We stayed at Jeake's House over a weekend in May 2014. It was a special event; our first trip away without our kids for a few years. Sans kids with very much with a 35 kilo adolescent golden retriever. Having called around a few 'dog friendly' places in Rye, I was charmed by the warmth and obvious affection that JH's owners clearly have for their doggy guests. We stayed in the Aiken Room - a 'suite' at the very top of the house with a lovely en-suite and two double bedrooms, one of which featured a four poster and a gorgeous window seat looking out over the rooftops of Rye. The window seat was large enough for the two of us to stretch out and read our books, but happily the weather was too good to allow for indoor loafing!

Breakfasts were, as promised, absolutely wonderful. Not grand, flashy or experimental, but authentic and with the focus on taste and quality. Hamish (our golden) also enjoyed his daily treat of a breakfast sausage sent specially from Chef!

An absolutely lovely weekend. We will be back with the rest of the family in tow!

Room Tip: Most rooms are up steep and narrow stairs. If you don't mind the climb then the Aiken room at t...

We spent 3 nights at Jeakes and it was a wonderful place to stay. From the lovely welcome to the minute we left the service was first class. The building is very old hence squeaky floorboards, but the place is charming and atmospheric. Breakfast was exceptional with a very good choice, the devilled kidneys were extra special. The resident dentist (sorry I should have said chef) was a real character and made sure everybody was enjoying their breakfasts. They were also very helpful in recommending local restaurants, we tried three different ones which were all good.
If you had to find fault I'd say the shower was a bit small, but that would be nit picking in the extreme. Go ahead and book this place, you won't regret it.

we have been to Rye many times but had yet to try Jeakes House (it's usually fully booked!!). I now understand why. The room was beautiful, very traditional but with a modern and superbly clean bathroom (bath & great shower over). Breakfast was wonderful with plenty of choice and our hosts were both friendly and fun. We know our way around Rye but if you don't Jeakes will help you with restaurant/pub recommendations. Would definitely return here.

Last minute get away from London and could not of hoped for more. Lovely room, food and location. Everything from the car parking to the honesty bar is done with real care and attention. The village has a number of lovely pubs and the sandy beach must be amazing in the height of summer.

Can't wait to head back! Webbe's fish restaurant is also a must!

Spent an excellent three nights at Jeake's House. It's on a cobbled street but you can park outside to off load luggage and they have a car park a few minutes walk away which is useful in Rye where parking is limited. The house fits right in, it's a bit eccentric, wonderfully cosy and our room was supremely comfortable. Rye is a small historic town and Jeakes House is close to everything. The owners were welcoming and couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice - most of which my husband tried so can vouch for quality. Rye is a charming and historic town and Jeake's House reflects both. I'm sure we'll be booking in again.

Room Tip: We had a bedroom called 'Elders' which faced the cobbled street in front of the house, but d...

If you are planning to visit Rye then look no further than this beautiful period B&B for atmosphere, comfort and friendliness. Centrally located and with the benefit of its own car park the owners are very welcoming and friendly, and the room we had was sumptuous. It was a shame we were only staying for one night but we'll be back again soon.

Walking up the cobblestone street to the Jeake's house was an experience in itself. Roaming around the city (village?) was loads of fun. So many people we met in Rye have lived there theri entire lives. Talking to them all was a highlight. The hotel has so much history (and I love history!) that the town came to life before our eyes. The owner and staff were wonderful and helpful. The room was great and roomy. Breakfast was fantastic. I would definately recommend this wonderful B&B.

Room Tip: We stayed in Malcom Lowry room. An excellent choice, very roomy with a good view of Mermaid Street.
