“Very comfortable cottage with a relaxed atmosphere”
Reviewed 12 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Took my mother, daughter and 9 month old twins so a real age mix and consequently I wanted a cottage we would be happy to spend more time in than usual. Seakale didn't let us down - lovely decor, comfortable seating, luxery beds and very well stocked kitchen. There was nothing we looked for that we couldn't find. Also had added bonus of a sunny garden, parking and plenty of room for all the baby paraphanalia!.

My only reservation for the elderly and mobile young would be the rather steep, uncarpeted stairs but other than that we couldn't fault anything.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a positive review. How wonderful to have organised 4 generations under the same roof! I am very pleased that you found Seakale a comfortable place to stay.

I agree with your reservation that Seakale might not be suitable for both the elderly and mobile young. In fact, I have had a number of enquiries from guests who have been thinking of bringing along elderly relatives and this is something I have always pointed out. There is also a photo of one of the staircases in the photo gallery, so that potential guests can see what it's like. I have now also added a section on this in the property description, in the hope that guests who don't enquire beforehand, or see the photo gallery, can read this to help them decide whether the property is suitable for their needs.

With thanks and best wishes, Jane

“Exceptional decor and thoughtful extras made this a perfect holiday”
Reviewed 28 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

The moment you walk through the door, Seakale promises a holiday home experience not often matched in other accommodation. It delivers on every level.

An exceptional standard of decor, pleasing on the eye and plenty of interesting artefacts to drool over. Certainly very inspirational for me, as interiors are my passion.

The area is close to Rye town, very picturesque with interesting shops and it is worth a look around the side streets. Stop off at The Mermaid, a very old hotel which serves good food in an amazing atmosphere.

We are National Trust members and visited 6 properties/gardens all within 40 minutes of Seakale. Bodium Castle and Smalll Hythe were our favourites. We also went to France for the day as the Euro Tunnel is only 40 minutes away.

Hastings proved to be a fascinating place for vintage finds (the Old Town) with eclectic shops - do seek out Butlers and The Home Store.

We ate at the Ship, George in Rye and The Mermaid, all superb.

I would recommend Seakale to anyone - we would love to return. The quirky area in which it is situated is scattered with all sorts of different houses and reminiscent of Barbados in its laid back, unstructured personality. Not suburban in any way, but this adds to its charm and it is so quiet, a good sleep is guaranteed.

The owner is most helpful and really does care that guests enjoy their stay.

“Lovely cottage in wonderful location”
Reviewed 23 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We spent a couple of nights at Seakale, having looked for dog-friendly accommodation in the Rye area. As it happens, dog-friendly is an understatement - the owner even left a bag of fresh dog treats for us to find on arrival.

The cottage itself is beautifully decorated and very well equipped, with everything you might need for your stay. It also has a wood-burning stove which is great for chilly evenings. The cottage is very comfortable and immediately feels like home. There is a nice little garden as well, perfect for al fresco meals.

Seakale is in Rye Harbour, which is less touristy than Rye town, but it has a lot to offer for nature lovers - the Rye Harbour nature reserve is right on your doorstep, accessible within a couple of minutes walk from the front door.

There are also some useful local amenities, like a general grocery store, a tea room and gallery and a couple of pubs, within a 5-10 minute walk from Seakale. And Rye town is only a 5 minute drive away for anything else you might need.

In summary, Seakale is a perfect retreat for a quiet break - we hope to head there again sometime soon, and can highly recommend it.

Thank you for your very kind review. Seakale is especially dog-friendly as we have two dogs of our own and feel they definitely deserve to be treated as one of the humans! I'm glad that you enjoyed the area. It's certainly a bonus having the nature reserve on our doorstep, which makes for some very easy dog walks! I hope to welcome you back one day. “Top marks”
Reviewed 19 February 2014 for a stay in February 2014

Without doubt the nicest cottage we've stayed in! Very tastefully, and sensibly decorated. Everything worked (including the WiFi, which even allowed us to watch live streaming of the football).... And some lovely touches such as milk (2 litres as well, not a pint!), cake (very yummy - locally bought!), dishwater tablets, coffee etc etc. Every time we said "but I bet Jane hasn't thought of..." she had!

Rye Harbour is also a great location (yes, even in February). We had a bracing wintry walk through the nature reserve on the Saturday, and then a walk along the shingle beach on the sunny Sunday. Also popped along the coast to sample the delights of Camber Sands. Rye as well is lovely. Just wish we'd had longer.

Liked best: The cottage and location ticked every box and Jane was the perfect landlord
Liked least: Has to be the unadopted part of the road, although I'm sure that this was partially due concrete being washed away due to the recent wet weather

“Gorgeous, tranquil, extremely well equipped cottage”
Reviewed 16 December 2013 for a stay in November 2013

Had a wonderful few days at Seakale - it was perfect for us and the dog; nature reserve walk on the doorstep and miles of sandy beach for playing on (just make sure you get the tide times right!)

Cottage is extremely well equipped with extra touches adding to the sense of a special getaway. You can walk into Rye town in about half an hour or there is a bus which isn't terribly frequent but a bus nonetheless!

The log burner is gorgeous and when i wrapped up with the soft blanket in front of the fire i didn't really want to ever move again!

Have already recommended the cottage to a few people and will hope to return ourselves in Spring time.

“Beautiful cottage near the coast, a real gem in Rye, Sussex”
Reviewed 6 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We have 4 blissful days at Seakale which was extremely efficiently run by the owner ,Jane. Lovely furnishings & very well kitted out so that you could pack more easily and not have to take all those extras you need for self-catering & beach holidays. Really appreciated. Everything worked, it was very warm and cosy, especially with the log burner!

Our 2 boys had a bedroom each and they loved the nearby park, minutes walk away through a little path between the cottages on the other side of Tram Road.

Great area - saw Battle Abbey, Hastings, Camber Sands, Rye, Dungeness & Dover Castle & had time to enjoy and relax at Seakale too. Just wish we had time to visit Lewes and it's antique shops - might have to return!

Would highly recommend this cottage and area.
