“Home away from home”
Reviewed 3 January 2018 for a stay in December 2017

This was a repeat visit visit for me, and it really felt like coming home. The cottage is just lovely - full of character, comfortably furnished, extremely cosy and on the prettiest street in Rye! It has everything you need for a few days away if you want to do very little, including more than enough kitchen facilities to cook in, but Rye does have plenty of dining choices within a couple of minutes walk of the cottage, too. The open fire is an added bonus for a winter stay, it is always a highlight for me!

Cosy cottage, great location, welcoming wine & dog friendly too, what more could any holiday maker want except for a lovely historic pub right next door - and it had that too!

“Lovely peaceful hideaway!”
Reviewed 23 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

A lovely little hideaway in the middle of a beautiful town! What more could one want for a week, exploring the surrounding countryside, Shopping, or just chilling at home!
I would recommend this house to anyone. There was even a complimentary bottle of wine and a greetings card to welcome us!
Don`t think twice! Book!!

“Perfect stay”

We had a wonderful time in the smugglers cottage. It was cosy, well-equiped, nicely old and authentic, just what we were hoping for!

“Beautiful and quaint”
Reviewed 3 December 2016 for a stay in November 2016

This cottage has everything. It's in one of the most beautiful streets in Rye and next door to the historic Mermaid Inn. It's right in the heart of the town, near the pretty churches, shops and pubs. There was something very special about opening the door from cobbled Mermaid Street and stepping inside in a freezing winter day. It has central heating so was toasty and cosy. We were welcomed with a card and lovely bottle of red wine, logs and coal to get the fire going.
It's a quaint English cottage and furnished sympathetically for a building of its age while retaining original features, including expsosed bricks walls and fireplaces. There's a tiny courtyard at the back with a table for two which is probably very nice in Summer.
There are two cosy and welcoming double bedrooms on the second and third floors.
There is great wi-fi, a shelf full of books, including an interesting one about Romney Marsh, a couple of board games, tv, radio, DVD player and there's now a hairdryer in one of the bedrooms.
We loved it here as it's so near Dungeness and the beautiful Camber Sands and will be returning.
For note, the street is cobbled and the pavement narrow so if you have mobility problems this could be a challenge. You can park outside to unload your bags but if you are nervous of driving in very narrow streets you may wish to park first and carry your bags over the cobbles.

“Absolutely lovely.”

Smugglers cottage is just gorgeous. it has everything you might need and feels perfect for someone who wants to enjoy the experience of staying in such a historic setting. Also a very short walk from pubs, restaurants and cafes, not to mention places of interest like the church (you have to climb the church tower!) and Rye castle. The owners are helpful and accommodating and last but not least I rather enjoyed the envious looks whenever anyone saw us opening the door!
