not only has the name of this restaurant changed, but obviously the staff. previously the food was of a high standard , however on our latest visit on 15/7 the food was definitely lacking.
my partners burger at £8.99 was described as chargrilled, it was not,nor was it cooked properly as when he bit in to it,liquid came oozing down his chin, which I can only assume was grease. the chips were fairly sparce, arranged in a very small bowl certainly not worth the price, I ordered rump steak which according to the menu came with comfit tomatoes but it was actually half a tomato and although I asked for medium to rare steak, I would describe it as well done. we ordered side salad at a cost of £2.50, this consisted of several lettuce leaves ,probably one slice of the other half of my tomato , a slither of onion and the tiniest shredding of carrot, certainly unworthy of its £2.50 price tag. The waiter though, I must say was extremely attentive and helpful and did offer to take my steak back, but not wanting to be a nuisance or let my partner eat his meal alone I declined his offer.Wanting to move to a sunnier spot in the gardens once we had consumed our meal ,we went inside to order another drink to take with us and settle the bill. this it seems we should not have attempted as it caused all sorts of problems with the less than cheerful barmaid as the food was ordered via the waiter so payment needed to go through his card reader. eventually we took our drinks to the seating area away from the eating section and went to sit on a table when we noticed a bag of dog faeces in the middle of it, without proper examination, it looked as if it had been there a while, so we sat a couple of benches away from it to avoid flies and smell etc and on the fence directly next to us somebody had obviously wiped dogs faeces off of their shoe by scraping it on said fence.
Although the faeces incidents were not directly the pub/restaurant fault, it may be an idea to collect glasses and check tables in the seating area at regular intervals. The whole experience somewhat put a damper on our lovely summer evening which we thought would be topped off with a nice meal. suffice to say we will not be returning to the restaurant again but may pop in for a drink as they cant really go wrong with that , can they??? the price of the same drinks went up for 2nd round, but when my partner commented barmaid just huffed and walked away, not worth causing a scene for 5pence but she glared at him when he mentioned it.
the 2 stars given are all for the waiter who was in fact very helpful and friendly.
