I went there for my sisters 50th birthday gathering on Sunday lunchtime, continuing through to the afternoon and evening. There were around twenty five people expected at various stages, so she had discussed the logistics with the staff prior to the visit and even though not everyone was expected to eat, was allocated a medium size table in the restaurant on the pretense that the bar area would be busy.
The staff were awful from the start, there simply wasn’t enough room on the cramped table so around half of the early guests chose not to eat and that seemed to add further to their chagrin. The food itself was a little above average but the attitude of the waiter was completely intolerable.
Guests were pointedly ignored at the bar, generally up to twenty minutes despite the fact that the bar wasn’t particularly busy. Unbelievably on one occasion when ordering ten or so drinks, we were told by the landlady that she was too busy and would have to write it down and do it when she had time.
In appreciation that the group generated several hundred pounds worth of revenue, the extra business was clearly not valued at all by the owners and it was a terribly disappointing experience.
