I visited this Tea Room on a Sunday

Yes there was a bit of a que but we were promptly seated - The Waitress was very helpful and we got all out food and drinks in a reasonably time frame

I had Macaroni Cheese and it was piping hot, lovely salad and home made coleslaw with crisps to! Very filling and approx £7 which I think is excellent value! Very lovely building and a great place to have a chat and eat, especially as the weather was poor it made for a lovely lunch time.

Shop is across the way and is very lovely as well, selling the entire Tiptree range along with cakes and even Yankee Candles! Very nice to have a look round

Don't forget to visit the museum to see how it all started :-)

All in all - A couple of the reviews below about this being poor are obviously from people with high expectations! This is a Tea room at the end of the day not the Ivy! So ignore them and pay this place a visit, its well worth it!

Having tried several afternoon teas over the years I was excited to try this venue. Very disappointed with the portion size and the choice of sandwiches. Only allowed to pick a choice of sandwich each as opposed to 4 different little sandwiches. Once ordered and it finally arrived one of the sandwich choices was incorrect. There was 4 little cakes to share, which we found very difficult to cut in half. Scones were small but the jam was lovely as expected.

Overall very disappointed with the portion size and the £25 price to go with it. Unlikely to return as the staff didn't seem to care that we were dissatisfied with the experience.

We went as we were out this way and wanted to try the cafe but were met with a queue out the door which should be a good sign but sadly it wasnt. The girl who sits you at a table looked miserable and clearly didnt want to be there and she promptly sat us at a table that was wet where it was wiped over buy not cleaned we then had our menus slapped in front of us. Within seconds a waitress asked if we were ready and we had bearly even looked so we asked for a couple more minutes but got a long wait instead. Having ordered a sandwich and a cream tea for two we got our drinks immediatly but the coffee was cold and the tea was so strong it could make a builder wince ! The main problem however was the wait as the sandwich took twenty—five minutes and the cream tea followed a couple of minutes later as no one told them to make it but by this point the drinks were stone cold and surely thats the point of cream tea that you have the tea with the scone (which other tables did get so this wasnt due to it being busy) and an actual portion of cream rather than a misely little pot would be nice too! The food was good and the surroundings were nice but this cost nearly twenty quid that is too much for what we got. I appriciate that it was busy but that is the unfortunate nature of this business you should be prepared. I will be willing to give it another try on a quiet day to see if it improves but believe me this is against my better judgement.

We couldn't get into the museum or tea rooms because of coach parties beating us to it. Nevertheless we visited the shop and spoke to a really nice young lady working on the fruit stall. The staff are knowledgeable and a credit to Tiptree. We are going to try again next time we are in the area.
