I can only say that the 'Shelley' room needed a good lick of paint and a new set of windows! There was a tremendous draft coming through every window which made the room cold even when heating was on full blast. The tap in the large bathroom was loose, and the jacuzzi bath shot a fountain of water across the room! Hence the wood around the sink surround was rotten. On the up side, a very comfy bed, friendly staff and really good food from the kitchens.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and it was delightful, we were shown to our room, Shelley, which was beautiful, the hotel is like no other, the staff were friendly, always a smile on their faces and truly seemed to enjoy there work especially a very helpful lady called Tracy.
Keep up the good work guys!

Booked a night away at very late notice and decided to go for the Shakespeare Suite as my wife and I had stayed in this room some years before and the room was exceptional. Got a great deal on the room as the night we stayed was midweek and pretty much had the hotel to ourselves! Room was fantastic as before and this time we went in our own private hot tub which comes with the room as the weather was good. The cleanliness of the hot tub was impeccable and the staff left additional towels which was a nice touch. Had a meal at Milsoms instead of Le Talbooth for a change and found it very relaxing and the food was very good, just an idyllic setting and only 5 mins from the hotel. The hotel will also drop you off and pick you up from the restaurant, and are only a phone call away. Staff were great especially Steffi, who let us have a look around the empty rooms after our breakfast the morning we left for future bookings and to get an idea of the rooms. The photo's on the website do not do the rooms justice, everyone of them is gorgeous and are all decked to to an exceptional high standard. Perfect stay, Incredibly attentive staff, you have a winning formula here for couples, business and families... Stay, you'll love it!!

Stayed on an excellent dinner, bed, breakfast deal in Jan. Went shopping in Colchester first as it's only ten mins away in the car. Can't remember the name of the room but it was extremely comfortable, a decent size and nicely decorated. Lovely biccies, too! I also love that they leave the doors of the bedrooms not being used propped open so you can have a nose into them! Didn't go to the pool area this time as it was raining hard but did go to la maison for dinner and it was as exceptional as we'd remembered it. Staff in the hotel all very friendly and efficient. Good breakfast, too. Would highly recommend for a night's getaway,

Simply amazing staff and wonderful breakfast (Avocado on toast). Blew us away as that level of friendliness and service is not something you expect in the UK. Ate in both the restaurant and the funkier cafe/bar in the evening for free as part of a deal happening in January and both meals were excellent - , the Restaurant was quite whisper-y and smart - couldn't say which I preferred, as both so different.

My other half whisked me away for a romantic mid week stay at the Maison Talbooth and I wasn't disappointed. It really is a lovely hotel, very intimate and set in the Essex countryside with gorgeous views. Each room/suite is well equipped with a well stocked mini bar and complimentary Ren toiletries. All suites are a little different, with unique character and design. The grounds are small, but very well maintained. The real treat is the pool house, which would be fabulous for parties. The staff were very good, helpful and polite. They really went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable and memorable. We dined at Le Talbooth, the sister restaurant, where we had a superb meal. Again a beautiful building in a lovely setting. They run you down in the hotel Range Rover and collect you when you are finished, which is a lovely touch. Breakfast was very good, offering a great choice, from cooked to continental. They were very good at accommodations dietary needs. My only criticism would be of the coffee, in both the Le Talbooth restaurant and at breakfast in the hotel, it wasn't very good. However that would be the only criticism. We don't visit many places more than once as we like to experience new hotels and restaurants, however as our stay was so lovely we are looking at returning already. This hotel really succeeds in making it a very intimate and special stay for guests.
