“Coffee and Cake!”
Reviewed 20 October 2011

We didn't reside here but I can say that we had coffee and cake in the most beautiful surroundings in front of the log fire. The warm scones were the best I'd ever tasted! A must if you are visiting the village. Would love to stay over the next time.

We stayed for a 2 night break with dinner, bed and breakfast included. The location of the hotel is beautiful, peaceful, rural and picturesque. The rooms were lovely however we had to be moved from our room on the 1st floor due to a very noisy bed and mattress. This was done without fuss and our second room was perfect on the second floor. The restaurant, it's menu and the service were second to none. I would most definitely return!

We had dinner here on our first night visiting Bibury and it set a very high standard. With some tasty small canapes while we had a pre dinner drink and the odd extra taster course added in, there were lots of delicious flavours going on.
The service was very friendly and fun, but not obtrusive. The inn itself is again warm and open feeling. We would recommend eating here even if you are not staying here. We were at Bibury Court, but would try staying here if we returned, as the service and food was far better at the Swan.

We have just returned from a brief stay at the Swan. We needed to check in early as we had a wedding to attend and the staff were helpful and the room was ready with no fuss at all. Bibury itself is beautiful and the hotel is very nicely put together. The room was very comfortable and roomy and the bathroom had some lovely Molton Brown cosmetics. We had a drink in the cosy bar last night which had a log fire. We also enjoyed our breakfast this morning. The hotel is a bit pricey but staying there felt like a lovely treat. I would recommend it for a relaxing stay in some amazing countryside.

Finally having a chance to see the Cotswolds, there were many choices as this compact region is dense with charming villages and their places to stay. A group of small inns under the banner "Cotswolds Inns and Hotels," offered places that actually looked like what i expected -- no glossy updates and modern flourishes to distract from the ambiance of this corner of England. The Swan truly is an old coaching inn. Our room was upstairs through a winding maze of stairs, twists and turns, with exposed beams, leaded glass windows with crank-out arms, and a bathroom nearly the size of the bedroom. We booked a "Stay 3 nights for the price of 2" fall package, which included breakfast daily and two dinners. The Gallery Restaurant had good choices each night, along with attentive service from the maitre d', an energetic young man from Slovakia, who seemed to be running the place. Breakfast each morning was also excellent. A wedding was booked in on our third night, which the hotel staff kindly advised us about well in advance, so that last night, we went elsewhere, but wished we hadn't. Parking was available in the adjacent lot, and among the great attributes of The Swan, was walking right outside to the Bibury Trout Farm, the bridge over the River Coln, the gardens alongside the walk to Arlington Row, and an idyllic setting all around. If i had any minor complaint, it was the "matter of fact" approach at check-in and check-out, but everything else here was top notch. It was the right hotel in the right place, as we easily visited Blenheim Palace and Woodstock; Hidcode Manner, Broadway, Chipping Campden, Tetbury, and Burford. Bibury was a great choice, and The Swan is a lovely memory I hope to experience again in the future.

Room Tip: With some of the value-added packages, it made sense to upgrade to a four-poster room. The Owl Room...

My wife and I stayed a the Swan for 2nts. We booked what the label their "Sparkle Package" which includes Dinner, Bed and Breakfast with a glass of Prosecco. The location was beautiful and the hotel a beautiful old building - unfortunately at the time of day we arrived there was no parking available at the hotel so we had to park some distance away. However, a member of staff was sent to fetch our luggage and take it to the room. The room was fine but I would guess smaller than the ones on the lower floor by virtue of being on the top floor but had a great view. Unfortunately the lift only went as far as the 1st floor so this mean't lots of stairs to climb each time we went out - as seniors, although reasonably fit, I would have thought they would have tried to put us somewhere more easily accessible. The real highlight of the hotel was the fantastic food and outstanding restaurant staff. The Maitre'd was most friendly and polite and always called us by name, as did the wait staff. He was also intimately knowlegable about the food and the chef's preparation - he even described for me the difference between Bressingham and Mallard duck as the menu changed between the 2 nts. As far as dining was concerned the 2 nts at the Swan were the highlight of our trip and I think beat out all the other great places at which we stayed and ate - this was impressive since one had a Michelin star.

We stayed here for one night bed, breakfast and evening meal. I have always wanted to stay here , finally had a chance and loved it all. The hotel is in a lovely setting next to a lovely river and its on a quiet road 5 mile from Cirencester. Ideal for travelling within the Cotswolds.
The receptionist was efficient and took us to our room. She even offered to get help from the car with our bags. The room was large and very nice, though the bed and floorboards were a bit creaky. The ensuite could probably do with a little makeover too, but i am being picky by saying that and it added to the character in all honesty. Everything worked fine and was clean and comfortable.
We had a cream tea mid afternoon which was lovely and then evening meal. The service was top class and we had well sized portions of top class food. The bibury trout fishcake was excellent. The steak was perfection and by the end of the three courses i was ready for bed.
By breakfast i can honestly say i was still full. However the breakfast was of high standard again and i had to try it. Its worth booking a meal here if nothing else.
Overall the service the room and the food was of top class standard and worth every penny.
