We booked this hotel via Secret Escapes for two days. The hotel bedroom was lovely and spacious. I suppose the only thing that let it down was the food in the evening. It was poorly presented and not very tasty, however it was part of the deal for a three course meal to be taken on the first night. The breakfast was however better.

Overall a lovely hotel, staff were friendly although the service in the restaurant was a little slow. Its setting is beautiful and it is well situated for touring around the Cotswolds.

Room tip: The upgraded rooms are really lovely.

I booked the Swan well over a year before staying. As i had been looking for somewhere for our Honeymoon. I couldn't seem to book it on the hotels site as it was too far in advance for the new rates. However not to be put off, i emailed head office and they had the hotel phone me back. I booked a 5 night stay in the Honeymoon suite (Dragon fly). The room has a large 4 poster double bed and a very large bathroom with his & hers sinks and a double spa bath. The hotel uses Molton Brown for it's toiletries which is a nice touch. When we arrived at the hotel the staff where extremly helpful as they where all week. Breakfast was cooked to order, which sometimes seemed a little slow. But as we where here to relax it wasn't a problem. We didn't eat in the restaurant so i can't comment on that. However we did eat in the bar a couple of times which was quite a relaxing atmosphere and the food was well cooked. The hotel has a little reading room with a real open fire and we warmed up here before going up to the room. Well we did stay in mid February. Was it worth the money, the simple answer to that is yes, and yes i would stop here again. Maybe in the summer to see the area in it's full glory. Quite simply a jewel in the crown of a place to stay.

Room tip: Rooms at the rear of the hotel don't have a view.

For anyone who knows Bibury the setting is beautiful - and this Hotel is extremely picturesque and as a result very popular for weddings. We had a deluxe Cottage suite - which I think had recently been decorated and it was gorgeous. It comprised its own entrance and small courtyard, living room and upstairs to bedroom and spacious bathroom. We had ordered the 'indulgence' break which included champagne, chocolates and toiletries. We have stayed at the Hotel before and had a gorgeous room within the main Hotel - so I can only assume that the majority of rooms are of a very good standard.

The food was excellent and I had one of the best steaks I have tasted in a long while - my husband had rump steak which was a bit tough but ok. The starters (ham hock and whitebait) were delicious as were the puddings - treacle tart and orange creme brulee. The wine we had ordered was out of stock but they brought us another bottle - which although more expensive - was charged at the same rate.

The staff were polite but a bit impersonal. On our previous visit there was a charming 'Maitre d' who offered us 'amuse bouche' from the Chef and talked us through the menu - this time it was the standard go in, sit down and order. I am not sure if the Hotel had changed hands since our last visit - but we definately felt as if we were in a 'chain' rather than a bespoke hotel. However, given that there was a wedding going on - the Chef did an excellent job and we enjoyed our meal. We had breakfast in our room and that was of the same good quality.

It is a lovely Hotel and well worth a visit - but I would strongly recommend going when they do not have a wedding on!. I know weddings are bread and butter to Hotels nowadays - but it means the bar is always full of inebriated guests - who don't have any consideration for anyone else and there is always a slightly 'rushed' atmosphere especially at check out time. As a result we didn't have a relaxing drink in the bar before our meal ( it was so crowded- with shrieking children running about - not what you want when on a romantic break!) and chose not to go into the main Hotel for breakfast the following day - for the same reason! Hotels do note - you need to tell guests if a wedding is going on - as it does severly impact on the atmosphere and accessibility of the hotel.... and can be annoying especially when you have paid quite a large amount of money to stay there!

This was not a cheap break but it was relaxing and due to our room - we had the privacy we wanted - so do try it - it is a lovely Hotel and the decor is charming.

Room tip: The cottage rooms are delightful and entirely private.

We stayed for 2 midweek nights in Room 4 ("Vole") on a "2 nights for price of 1" promotion which made the break good value. We think the regular' rate might be a little overpriced. The hotel location is wonderful; it's in the proverbial "middle of nowhere" with the villages of Arlington & Bibury on its doorstep. Just across the road is the hotel's own gardens with the river Coln running through it and they are very attractive, even on a cold February day. Arrival was well handled with the receptionist showing us to the room and making sure we had everything we needed. The room itself was quite large with two armchairs and a short passage to the bathroom (with bath & separate shower) with a cupboard/wardrobe between in the passage. The room was very warm - in fact, we had to open the window slightly as it became too warm. Three minor criticisms are: (1) the bathroom door opens only to 90 degrees and has a tendency to come back at you if pushed open hard; (2) the hot water for bath or shower took several minutes of running before producing hot water and we felt was very wasteful of water; (3) the shower temperature control lever sticks out a long way from the wall and could easily be knocked when showering changing the temperature suddenly to very hot or cold! Breakfast was served in The Signet Room (their weddings room) as the restaurant was being refurbished. Good selection on the cold buffet and well cooked hot breakfasts served by attentive staff. We also had dinner on the first night in this room; all courses were well cooked and presented. We took a bar meal in the bar area on the second night (different menu which offered reasonable choices) and this was all well cooked and served hot. Overall, a lovely hotel in a magical setting in the wonderful Cotswolds ideally located for visits to Cirencester, Cheltenham, Burford etc. Attentive friendly staff offered good service but possibly a little pricey if not staying on a 'deal'.

My husband and I visited The Swan last week end with some friends we had treated for a 50th Birthday surprise, we had visited this hotel for our honeymoon some 4 years ago and fell in love with the hotel. I was some what disappointed with the room that our friends were given, superior room I would not rate it as that,Curtains, cushions, bedding and the front of the wardrobe very bold dark blue and pink material that just overpowers the room !!! I had requested a nice view which Room 2 does not give you,(in my opinion) not compared with the views from room 8/9 so i was very upset about that. My husband and I had a delux double that was a beautiful room with stunning views.
Staff were brilliant, food was excellent,
Wine very expensive though.!!!!!!
As it was a 50th Birthday surprise I was very disappointed at the room our friends had, as I had made the staff aware it was a special treat and the room ( i wouldn't class as cheap) was the let down for me ,xxxx overall though lovely hotel

Room tip: I have stayed in Rooms 8 & 9 Lovely Rooms
