I booked a night at the Swan some months ago for an annual get together with some long standing clients. We were a party of 7 who had travelled from various parts of the UK. I only read the previous reviews a few days before our stay and based upon ratings and comments was beginning to regret booking.

However, from our arrival to our departure we were well looked after, the place was warm and welcoming and full of character. The food and wine were enjoyable and reasonably priced. The staff were accommodating and looked after us well, some could perhaps be more confident in their approach to customers, maybe they are new to their jobs or some of the negative reviews have had an effect on them, but nevertheless they were enthrusiastic.

From the minute we arrived we were made more than welcome. Staying three days we met just about everyone that worked here and loved their friendliness and help. Our room was "Dragonfly" with a four poster bedroom, space for a small child's bed and a huge bathroom with an enormous jacuzzi. We are not the luckiest family with heating and fresh air but the heating went on the blink in our room. They did everything including let us sleep in another room for the one night and then they would resolve. the following day the heat was on.

I will say that the food quality was exceptional and we all ate well. Our friends and families came over on the Saturday for a party and Mike (Duty Manager) was a star making everything come together for the day and highly recommended is Charlotte who organised the event.

Highly recommended hotel in a beautiful part of the Cotswolds. There are many other hotels but we are so glad that we stayed at the Swan

Room Tip: All the rooms are great Dragonfly and Swan are at the back. they also have four wonderful cottages t...

I took my mother to the restaurant on the Saturday evening of the 10th November 2013.
When we arrived we found that there was a wedding party in the hotel, but only 2 bookings for the restaurant. We were shown to our table, which for some reason was by a door to the courtyard. On a sunny day this would have been fine, but it was raining and blowing a gale, which could be felt around our ankles.
The Hotel runs a monthly menu, fair enough, but when I ordered the T bone steak the order was taken, only to be informed 5 minutes later that they didn't have any. That was the start of the main course problems. After having to choose another main course, when it arrived the vegetables were not cooked. At this point I decided to take my mother elsewhere. What started as a birthday treat for my mother, ended with fish and chips (which were cooked to perfection).

We've stayed in almost all the Cotswold Inns properties but the first time in the Swan last week. The hotel is larger than the pictures suggest and has much of the feel of a Cotswold Inn, however we felt badly let down by the restaurant service. They seem a little understaffed and much of the time service was not forthcoming. We had to raise our hand to summon anytime we wanted something yet the staff were happy to come and clear the table next to us and walk off without noticing our glasses were empty or we hadn't received a menu etc. On the last day, at breakfast, we were shown our seats but then played a game of how long it would take for someone to bring us a menu or offer tea/coffee. After 30 minutes we decided we had better things to do and put our hand up (again!).

The food was good, steaks excellent, but it was a shame we had to keep asking for everything.

After a terrible nights sleep in room 15 (our neighbours in 17 snored, coughed and wheezed their way through the night), we asked to move as the paper thin walls were useless. We were told that room 17 (and thus 15) would be vacant for the next two nights, so we moved to 17 which has a slightly larger, though dated, bathroom. At 6pm, new guests checked into room 15, and the rooms opposite. Two more nights of crashing and banging. The hotel really has no soundproofing qualities whatsoever.

If you're light sleepers or easily disturbed, I'd be tempted to give the Swan a miss. If you don't mind hustling for your (good) food and sleep through anything, this might be the place for you.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have beautiful stereotypical Cotswold village views, rooms at the back (15 and 17...

We popped in for a drink once and thankfully the beer was not as bad as one poster commented on but a little nibble from the cheese board was a bit pallid truth be told.

Then we ate one night and they command a price for their menu. Our meals were not bad but neither can it be said that they were stand out brilliant! The portions are on the small side and whilst my duck was good, it would not have been unreasonable to expect there to be more veg on the plate if the duck was not going to be a full breast.

My wife's desert was awful and I commented to the waiting staff. The brownie was excellent but for some reason, someone in the kitchen thought it clever to drown it in a chocolate sauce when neither product wanted or needed to be in the same bowl as each other.

Our wines were good but in terms of a cost-benefit analysis of the nights fare and the cost, I am not sure I left with a desire to return. They need to up their game a bit because whilst they have got some good things going they are not reaching potential and are letting themselves down in my view.

Set in a beautiful location it really is picture perfect. Food I'd give 7/10 it was ok but we have had better and it did 40mins to get our food and it wasn't that busy if it was you may be ordering breakfast
Toilets were a bit untidy
Courtyard / seating area outside is good plenty of seats and a pretty water feature it was lovely on a sunny October day
