“Comfortable & clean, good location”
Reviewed 28 November 2011

We stayed in the 'Mungo Park' room for three nights. By prior arrangement, we arrived just before 8 p.m. on Friday, and were quickly checked in so that we could go out and feed.

Given the 4-star, 'highly commended' rating awarded by the AA, we did feel that the service was rather 'hands-off' and a little inconsistent in detail. For instance, no help was offered with carrying bags, and all information about local restaurants was given strictly on the basis of feedback from other guests, rather than on the basis of imparting advice based on local knowledge.

Nonetheless, we slept well: the room was very clean and comfortably furnished, and the en-suite shower room facilities were very good. There is some traffic noise, but the modern double-glazing dealt with most of it.

Breakfast comprised very good quality, locally-sourced produce and home-produced eggs.

We enjoyed the walk in and out of the village - it took us about 15 minutes and is all on the level.

We had a perfect four night stay at Larks Rise sleeping in the Mungo Park room with en suite, which was very clean and comfortable. Barbara and Bill were very welcoming hosts and we had lots of fun. The breakfasts were very good, Barbara's french omlettes a speciality (eggs from their own hens). Ideally positioned to explore the cotswolds we found many hidden gems thanks to Barbara and Bill. Lots of fine eateries, Rose Tree in Bourton and Hollow Bottom in Guiting Power (best get directions for this one!) We would not hesitate to recommend Larks Rise we will certainly be going back.

It's a pleasure to recommend this lovely little B & and B, where we stayed for a short week recently. We found the room very comfortable, clean and most convenient, the ensuite bathroom was smart and clean and the bed very comfortable, and we found the hosts were welcoming, helpful, and extremely amiable.
The breakfast (plentiful and with the freshest eggs from the resident hens !) and all other aspects of our stay were also excellent . We would naturally be very happy to recommend to our friends and family that they should stay there, and we would have no hesitation in going again ourselves. In addition we would be pleased to recommend the area, the scenery was a delight, and also most convenient was the short walk into the village where we had a great pub meal in the Mousetrap Inn. The whole countryside abounds with wonderful views and a large number of pretty towns and villages.

A 10 minute walk from the lovely village of Bourton on the Water, Lark's Rise is the perfect B and B for a weekend get away. Barbara and Bill enthusiastically welcome you into their comfortable home providing clean and comfortable rooms decorated with beautiful antiques, delicious breakfasts--including eggs from their own chickens, and a willingness to help make your stay as perfect as possible! We feel like we have made new friends--I would love to return someday.

This was such a lovely cozy b&b getaway I was so sad to leave. Bill and Barbara were very friendly when we arrived, it was sometime in autumn so the area around Bourton was beautiful and very romantic in an old englishy way. We had a cup of tea and Barbara showed us maps of walks and other things we could borrow. We had the room with the en-suite, everything was emmaculately clean in the bedroom and in the bathroom. Bathroom was brand new and bedroom had modern but not contemporary decor but it wasn't bland either- just right. Tv, drawers, extra blankets, nice squashy duvet. Very tasteful. I really chose this place because I love animals and I saw the photo of the chickens on the website, and without fail I managed to see some of them outside and even stroke one. The sleep was good, quiet and comfy. Breakfast was great, served in a light and cottagey conservatory with a whole choice of un-cooked things. Bill and Barbara didn't mind cooking just eggs and toast for me however I wanted it, but then the full breakfast for my other half. In peak season when they're much busier understandabley this might not be possible. We chatted about different things to do and walks to go on, they even leant me some walking boots which I was so grateful for. They are such nice people and so welcoming I will definately go back and I've recommended it to so many people, I often wander how they are doing.
Going into Bourton take a torch at night (bill and barbara lent us several to use) but if you are a country person this won't bother you in the slightest, makes it all the more fun. Bill and Barbara recommended the MouseTrap pub, book it advance and it is a lovely pub dinner. Visit Birdworld, the car museum and the model village and without a doubt do the maze! It is so much fun finding all the clues especially if you have kids.
If you like extravagance and playing computer games indoors then this is not your cup of tea. If you like outdoorsy stuff, cozy places, sharing icecreams and beautiful views and you're young at heart then this is sure to impress you.

From the booking in process I was impressed with the simple yet caring nature of the owners. A simple question of asking my partners name so they knew what to call us upon arrival was an example of their good customer service.

Upon arrival we weren't rushed into our room. We sat with Barbara, with a cup of tea in the lounge discussing areas we planned to visit and being offered unbiased, relevant, and realistic advice about things to do and areas to visit for the length of our stay. This was relaxed chatter that helped make us feel confident in our decision to stay at Larks Rise. It was clear we were welcome in their home and that if we needed anything we could approach them.

We had the room with no en suite but this was no problem as the bathroom across the hall for our use only was clean and decorated to a high standard, with bathrobes being provided. The room was clean, airy and tastefully decorated and a good size for a double room. The matress on our bed provided two nights of fantastic comfortable sleep. There was also a small selection of DVDs in the lounge which you could use in your room should you just want to relax.

The choice of breakfast was varied, offering basic cereals to full fry ups and salmon which was all clearly fresh food and delightful to eat. Nothing seemed too much trouble to request. Bill took the time to introduce himself the second moning as he had been away which again was a nice welcoming touch to our stay.

I would highly recommend the B&B to friends and family and will be happy to stay again when we return to the cotswolds. This is a fantastic example of a clean, friendly, well run B&B.

Larks Rise B&B was a lovely warm homely place to stay and barbara and bill were fantastic hosts and made our stay very enjoyable. The breakfasts were gorgeous especially the freshly laid eggs from the chickens, barbras scrambled egg was fantastic.
The bedrooms were lovely decorated and clean and even though we stayed in the bedroom without the en suite it made no difference as the bathroom was just for us to use and I would not let it put any one off. I would highly recommend this B& B to anyone, in fact I would not stay anywhere else other than Lark Rise if I visited again.
