Cranbourne House
Reviewed 28 April 2014

We would highly recommend Cranbourne House for anyone staying in the Cotswolds. The rooms and communal areas are luxuriously decorated and well appointed. John and Emma are extremely welcoming and friendly and have good local knowledge to impart. The small "going that extra mile" touches such as home baked cake in the room, readiness to supply extra pillows, well supplied tea trays and naughty sweets in the communal areas make the guest house that extra bit special. Breakfast had a good choice with the freshest ingredients and the couple have sourced local suppliers for a few items which is nice. The trout and scrambled egg/dropped scones with blueberries and maple syrup and full English which I tried were all cooked to perfection and fresh fruit salad was spot on too. It was great having an ipod dock in the room, the bath was hugeous and ample room to fit my fat preggo belly in and the whole house was spotlessly clean! We would definitely stay at your gaff again if we are travelling in the area. Thanks again for a lovely stay and we wish you both all the best in the future

Good Morning Sandra & Sonya, we have just finished reading your review on Trip Advisor and we are so glad that you had a great stay upon your trip to The Cotswolds while at Cranbourne House. Thank you for the comments about Emma and myself - we especially loved the comment about the little touches, as we too believe that this makes a difference when going away. We were more than happy to provide extra pillows - especially as it's such an important time with the baby arrival not too far away now.

We are pleased that you really enjoyed the little touches such as the pillows, the tea tray and even the iPod dock too. We do maintain everything at Cranbourne to the highest standards, so that you can indulge yourself in your weekend break. The chocolates and sweets in the communal areas are indeed a naughty treat and I have to often stop myself enjoying these too.

It was great to hear you sampled quite a lot of our breakfast menu while here and equally fantastic to know everything was to your satisfaction; from the fruit salad to the main options too. The trout we get from Donnington Trout farm is exceptional, along with the Full English Breakfast (especially the sausages). The Scrambled eggs are my favourite so I love to make sure that these are made to perfection too.

It's great to hear you will be back in the future and when you are please do contact us directly for availability, or if you are passing Bourton-on-the-Water, please give us a ring and pop in for coffee, cake and a catch-up. Good luck with everything in the next few months as I know it's an exciting time for all the family.

John Hallam

We loved Cranbourne House and it was the perfect place from which to explore the Cotswolds. Starting with our arrival, John was extremely pleasant and made us feel immediately at home. Emma was equally friendly at breakfast on both days, and John and Emma gave us some excellent advice on local walks (such as the walk from Bourton to Upper Slaughter, returning through Lower Slaughter, which we cannot recommend highly enough). Our room was comfortable and spacious. We feel we must apologise for not making the most of the chocolate cake that was provided on Saturday, which looked delicious but unfortunately we had over indulged with afternoon tea at Huffkins in Stow-on-the-Wold (another good suggestion from Emma) and the line had to be drawn somewhere! We will recommend Cranbourne House to family and friends without reservation.

Good Morning Daniel, we have just finished reading your review and must say it was such a delight to read all the lovely things you said about us and Cranbourne House B&B. I am glad that both the way myself from when you arrived, to Emma at breakfast came across in a homely manner - hearing that you felt at home is really our ultimate achievement for when guests come to stay with us. We definitely both enjoyed chatting to you and it was lovely to get to know you too.

It's great to hear the great things you said about the room too and we are pleased that the size of the room was adequate enough. Don't apologise for not eating the chocolate cake - to be fair with our breakfasts and of course with a trip to the amazing Huffkins, I am not surprised you weren't able to eat the cake when you came back after your day out.

If you are ever planning a trip to the Cotswolds in the future please do contact us directly for availability or if you are passing Bourton-on-the-Water, please give us a ring and pop in for coffee, cake and a catch-up.

the room was a double with ensuite and it was clean, fresh and comfortable.
the propriators john and emma were welcoming and very easy to talk to and as another reviewer said nothing was too much trouble.
i would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

Good Morning Jacquie, we have just finished reading your review and thank you for all the lovely things you said about us after stopping with us just before the Easter holidays. We are both pleased that you enjoyed yourself and your friends wedding that you attended.

We are delighted that you were pleased with the room and the particular style of this. We always give our very best to maintain everything from the cleanliness right down to the quality of the bedding that we choose, as we know how important it is to feel relaxed in a comfortable and clean environment.

Thank you for the comments about Emma and myself - we do enjoy meeting and greeting our guests and doing everything we possibly can to ensure you are completely satisfied with your stay...and despite the limited taxi services, were more than happy to help you with this.

We do hope you will come and stay with us again and even if you are passing Bourton-on-the-Water, please give us a ring and pop in for coffee, cake and a catch-up.

Having read the previous reviews of Cranbourne House my husband and I did have very high expectations. We were not disappointed.

Cranbourne House itself is beautifully maintained and in keeping with the other stunning houses and buildings in the village. Its situation at the opposite end of the high street means it offers peace and tranquillity away from the tourists, but is close enough to pop back and forth from the high street to 'home'; and 'home' is truly how Cranbourne felt for our two nights stay.

We were situated in the Annex in a beautiful little room overlooking the well maintained garden. The bed was probably amongst the most comfortable I have ever slept in and the linen was luxurious with a beautiful bedspread and scatter cushions which added to the quality feel of the room.

The bedroom itself was perfect - light and airy with a perfectly situated huge wall to ceiling mirror.
There were enough wall sockets! Including ones by the bed to plug-in your phone / alarm!! (a total bugbear of mine as I have lost count of the amount of hotels where the plug socket is across the room!)

The bathroom was lovely with a fantastic rainforest shower which accommodated even my own preference for really hot showers (another bugbear from numerous hotel showers not providing hot enough water!)

The breakfasts were gorgeous! And the service that delivered them - fantastic. On Easter Sunday we even had Thorntons chocolate Easter eggs waiting for us...a really lovely touch. We also had home made cakes and biscuits placed in our room each day which was a real treat - thank you!

The rest of the main house was equally beautiful. Although we didn't use the lounge, conservatory or garden they were available to us and were really wonderfully maintained and looked very comfortable.

John and Emma were great hosts and had recommended a lovely little pub that we visited on our first night (The Mouse Trap) and from the literature they provided in the bedroom we had a great meal on our last night at The Croft. Without these recommendations we would have been a bit lost as to where to go, so this was a great touch and really enhanced our trip.

I would hugely recommend this B&B to anybody who values the personal touch and little bit of luxury in very peaceful surroundings.

Thank you

Good Morning Zoe & Ben, we have just finished reading your review and must say it was really great to hear that you both had such an enjoyable stay at Cranbourne B&B over the Easter weekend. It's great to know you really enjoyed the room, shower and the building itself; not forgetting the bed in Windrush, and we are pleased to hear how comfortable it was for you. I suppose until you mentioned it we forgot how nice it is that our rooms have so many sockets and indeed agree that a limited amount of sockets can cause problems, so again it's great to hear the positive comments with regards to this.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the village too - Bourton is a fantastic little place with loads to do and the great thing is that because we are just situated outside the village, you have the option to escape whenever you like. We know full well as locals that it can get very busy on Bank Holidays and is great to retreat every now and again. Calling it home too was such a lovely comment and our home is your home as far as we are concerned with relaxing and unwinding.

With it being Easter, we wanted to offer that extra touch, so it's great to hear that you liked the Easter Egg waiting on your breakfast table. Also, we love to bake and it's great to hear that you appreciated and loved the little touches, such as cake and biscuits in your room each day - after all it's these little things that make your stay that little bit more special.

Once again, thank you both for the lovely comments about your stay - it was great that we were able to pop your special hamper in your room as a surprise before you arrived and it really does sound like from start to finish was a lovely break for you both. Please do feel free to come back and visit or keep in touch.

We stayed at Cranbourne House for Two nights at the begining of April.the room we stayed in the Not Grove room, which met all our expectations, country style, well presented and clean. John and Emma were lovely hosts and nothing seemed to much trouble.Extra touches, like home made cake in bedroom on arrival was most welcoming. The breakfasts at Cranbourne are excellent, especially the full English!!!!. You are ideally placed at this B@B for visiting a lot of lovely towns and villages in this part of the Cotswolds. We will hopefully visit again soon. I'd have no hesitation recommending this B @ B to friends and family.

Good Morning Gary, we have just finished reading your review and we must say it was really great to hear that both yourself and Alison had such an enjoyable stay at Cranbourne B&B in the Notgrove room. We always want our guests to feel relaxed from the moment you enter the property - both Emma and myself enjoy seeing all our guests happy and as you mentioned, what better way to start your trip than some baked goodies in your room.

We do love to bake and it's great to hear that you appreciated and loved the little touches, such as the cake in your room each day. We are pleased that you enjoyed the village too - Bourton along with the surrounding Cotswold villages are beautiful and there is always loads to do. With regards to breakfast, it is the most important meal of the day after all, so we always aim to provide a sumptuous breakfast. Thank you for the comments about the Full English (I must admit, it's my favourite part of the menu too along with the trout).

We are glad you had a safe trip back to the Midlands and if you are ever planning another trip to the Cotswolds in the future, please do contact us directly for availability or if you are passing Bourton-on-the-Water, please give us a ring and pop in for coffee or tea, cake and a catch-up.

Excellent is not enough for the rating.
Everything about the venue was far above our expectations.
It was the first time we had visited the Cotswolds and will defiantly be returning again.
The friendliness of the locals was far better then we would have received in our own area.

Just back after a very pleasant stay at Cranbourne House, where our room (the "Notgrove" room) and huge bathroom get top marks (except a squeeking bed). Breakfast was excellent, and Emma/John were extremely helpful: drying our clothes after walks in the rain, giving us maps and advice about where to eat and what to see and making our stay 100% enjoyable. Just five minutes' walk away, we had lovely meals at The Rose Tree in Bourton-on-the - water, as well as beautiful walks to Upper and Lower Slaughter. If you have a car, we can recommend outings to Chastleton House for culture and The Feathered Nest at Nether Westcote for lunch and walks in the beautiful countryside: During our one hour stroll across the fields there, we observed wildlife in abundance, including fox and deer.

Good Morning Inger & Per Jaeger, we have just finished reading your review and must say it was really great to hear that you had a fantastic time and really enjoyed the Notgrove room on your stay at Cranbourne House. We always aim to go that extra mile and make sure that everyone has a pleasant stay when with us. Thank you for noting that the bed had a slight creak to it; if we would have known after your first night, we could have got this fixed straight away for your second night with us. As is though, we got our carpenter to take a look at the bed once receiving your review and the bed has been tightened. Thank you again for noting this to us.

We are pleased that you enjoyed the village along with other surrounding villages such as Nether Westcote for The Feathered Nest, which is a fabulous area too. We are always more than happy to be accommodating and are glad we were able to assist you during your stay with little things like your clothes and maps and information. I'm glad that breakfast was to your satisfaction, as we do pride ourselves on setting all our guests up for the day ahead with a variety of choice for the most important meal of the day.

If you are ever planning another trip to the Cotswolds in the future from Norway, then please do contact us directly for availability, or if you are passing Bourton-on-the-Water, please give us a ring and pop in for coffee, cake and a catch-up.
